I’ve just thrown a bunch of miscellaneous stuff into a box, and would love to have someone take it off my hands. Otherwise, it’ll probably go into the trash soon.
The box has…
… … two puzzles (inc a “Budweiser”) one; both have been opened and it’s unknown if all the pieces are present … … two globes for lamps or overhead lights … … a bunch of bath scrubbers … … outlet safety things … … a large spool of green kite string (?)
and some other stuff, including (and this makes me sad)
… a large vintage Madonna and child carved figure… BUT, the baby’s head has broken off and gone missing! (It’s really kind of weird, right?)
If you want all this stuff, let me know. It’s at my office in downtown Lewiston.
I don’t know anything about the source of this carving of two entwined giraffes… I searched through dozens of photos on-line and couldn’t find this particular one.
What I do know is that it fills me with peace. There is something about gazing at these gentle giants with their long necks that makes some of the world’s troubles fade for a bit.
Note: Items in our Wild Heart Gallery will soon also be published on their own website, Wild Heart dot Gallery.

While the auctioneer called this a “bookcase”, I suspect it was probably intended originally as a media cabinet.
It seems to me that a better use might be as a coffee bar, pantry shelving, or even tool storage out in the garage.
Someone with far better artistic skills than I could surely paint or stain this piece – possibly in a nice glossy black – for a more contemporary look. Or keep it as is for your farmhouse style kitchen!
Condition: While it has a number of small dings and scratches on the exterior, it is solid pine, and the shelves and cabinet are all clean and in excellent shape. It is very sturdy and can hold probably anything you want to store in it (canned goods, wrench sets, etc)!
Note, the piece does not have a back panel. And it is heavy.
Dimensions: 42″ high x 20″ wide x 16″ deep. The lower cabinet is 14″ high. Price: $30.00. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales tax of $1.93 for a total of $31.93.
Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm. Shipping & Delivery: Free local pickup. We can deliver within Lewiston-Auburn for a $15.00 delivery fee, or Gray/Portland (along the 202 Route, or just off it) early Wednesday mornings for the same $15.00. Shipping for this item is not recommended as the cost would be prohibitive for the value.
We love mint – spearmint, peppermint, chocolate mint – but it can take over a garden or lawn by spreading its rhizomes underground. This washtub would confine those pesky spreaders while still allowing you to enjoy them.
Condition: Using as an outside garden decoration or raised bed would be the best use for this washtub as it does have some rust inside, which has created a very tiny little hole in one area… and you’ll want to drill more holes for drainage anyway.
I just did some quick research and learned a lot about how to repair and use galvanized washtubs that have some rust. It’s really not as big a problem as I feared it might be.
In fact, the more I read about using this tub, the more I think I may just buy it off the business for my personal use! But for now, it’s still for sale.
Dimensions: about 11″ high x 24″ diameter (top)
Price: $15.00, plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax.
(I bought it via the on-line portion of a Bangor-area auction, sight unseen, except for the photo above. It seems that someone who was actually present at the sale wanted it almost as much as I did, as I paid rather more for the tub than one might expect at a country auction. In fact, at this price, I will definitely lose money, but it makes no sense to overprice it, when you can purchase a new galvanized tub for about $20 more!)
Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm. Shipping & Delivery: Free local pickup. A customer was ready to purchase this cabinet which had been sitting in the same location at my office for quite some time, but when I picked it up to carry it out to my Jeep so I could deliver it to the customer, it wobbled.
Huh? Wobbled?
I don’t know if the air was too dry (it was directly under a heating vent) or what, but there was no way I could sell this to the customer. So I drove it over to her and offered to give it for free. She declined; both she and her husband are in poor health, and she just didn’t want to deal with trying to tighten the screws or whatever it will take to get rid of the wobble.
And I’m pretty much in the same frame of mind. It’s been sitting here for a bit and I need the space. I’m no good with furniture repairs, so I’d just as soon give this to a friend or a follower of this website. Perhaps you’d like it? Absolutely free!
This is a great floor model jewelry chest with 7 drawers, two side cabinets and an upper cabinet with a mirror.
The drawers are lined with some kind of nice velvety material (as they should be); the side cabinets are intended for hanging chains, necklaces or other items. The top cabinet is designed for special pieces and rings.
Note the Queen Anne style legs.
Condition: While it has a number of small dings on the exterior, the drawers and cabinets are all clean and in excellent shape. (There’s an area on the inside of the top lid which is damaged in the upper right hand corner, as shown in the photo below.)
It is a bit dusty, which I plan to clear off for you!
Dimensions: 39″ high x 17″ wide x 12″ deep. The side cabinet doors are 20″ high. Price: $60.00. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales tax of $3.30 for a total of $63.30.

All are new and still with the tags from the high end Maine artisans boutique they came from.

This was another of those auction purchases that left me shaking my head.
I was sitting in the back of the room, after checking over the inventory to be auctioned which I’d done on two separate days (and so, thought I had a good handle on what was for sale).
There was a great deal of amazing jewelry that I wanted to buy – I hadn’t seen a single lot that I didn’t want. That made sense as I overheard someone saying the jewelry had come from a high end Maine artisan shop that went out of business; I knew that shop and had been to two of their boutiques which carried items of amazing craftsmanship. The bidders in the room also knew it. They outbid me – significantly – on nearly every lot.
Anyway, when a second lot of “Native American jewelry” came up, I was a bit surprised because I couldn’t remember having seen this second one, but what the heck, I entered the bidding, and won it. And was puzzled to find it wasn’t quite what I’d expected.
The lot consisted of a few Native American pieces (see next blog), but mostly included the items listed below. If they’re Native American, I’m sure those who work with jewelry making know exactly what all of this is worth, but since it’s not something I typically sell, I’m happy to sell everything listed below in one sale for 10% of the original tagged prices.
Condition: All are in new, never used, condition.
Here’s what I found:
Bagged, in individual jewelry bags; all with lobster claw clasps, and all tagged with their lengths, diameters and original prices: …. 16″, 4 mm black rubber cord, originally priced at $19.00 each – 2 pieces …. 18″, 2,5 mm black rubber cord, originally priced at $18.00 – 1 piece …. 18″, 3 mm black rubber cord, originally priced at $19.00 each – 9 pieces …. 18″, 4 mm black rubber cord, originally priced at $21.00 each – 6 pieces
There are 18 pieces in all that are bagged, with total original pricing of $353.00. (They had been marked down to less than half of their original prices, to a total of $140.00.)
Loose, all with lobster claw clasps, and all tagged with their lengths, diameters and original prices: …. 16″, 4 mm black rubber cord, originally priced at $19.00 each – 11 pieces …. 18″, 4 mm black rubber cord, originally priced at $21.00 each – 1 piece
There are 12 pieces in all that are loose, with a total original pricing of $230.00. (These also had been marked down to less than half of their original prices, to a total of $91.00.)
There is also a single red rubber cord, bagged, with a lobster claw clasp, and tagged with its length, diameter and original price, which was not marked down for some reason: …. 18″, 2 mm red rubber cord, originally priced at $15.00 – 1 piece
The total original price on this entire lot of 31 pieces was $598.00. Markdowns at the artisans shop before it closed brought those prices down to a total of $246.00.
Our Price: $60.00, which is 10% of the original prices, and just under $2.00 per piece. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $3.30 for a total of $63.30. (Unless you have a resellers certificate, of course.)
Shipping via USPS is $5.00.
Because we sometimes travel throughout Maine and New Hampshire to pick up new inventory, we thought perhaps our customers would like to know if we plan to be near their area at any time, in order to deliver heavier or more fragile items for less than a shipping company might charge.
So here’s a quick overview of some upcoming travel. We’ll try to stay on top of this in case it’s helpful for you! (The above photo is of our constant travel companions.)
Please Note Our Delivery Fees: Generally, our delivery charge is $15.00 around town (Lewiston/Auburn) or anywhere along a route we might be traveling on. (It can take time to package up inventory to be able to deliver it to you safely, and then time to go out of our way and actually do the delivery.) If you’re more than about a mile off the route we’re traveling on, there’s an additional cost of $1.98 per mile that we have to travel off our route.
This week will be fairly limited as far as travel is concerned! (Thank goodness… I need to get caught up on office work!)
On Sunday, January 10, 2021, we’ll be sticking around town but do plan to be out near the Lewiston-Sabattus line in the afternoon, so could deliver out there.
On Monday, January 11, we have to be in Mechanic Falls in the morning, or early afternoon (not yet sure of the time.) We’ll be leaving from Lewiston-Auburn (ME).
On Wednesday, January 13, we have to be in Portland for about 9:00-9:30, leaving from Lewiston-Auburn. We usually take the pike but can instead travel along 202. We’ll be returning from Portland at about 6:00 pm with the same travel itinerary.
On Friday, January 16, we’ll be in Augusta (ME) in the afternoon, leaving Lewiston-Auburn (ME) at about 11:30, and returning around 5:30. It’s quite likely that the Jeepster will be full on the way back, but we can make a stop along either 202, or the Sabattus/Litchfield area on the way up. (Alternatively, we could meet you off the Sabattus or Gardiner exits, as the turnpike is our preferred route.)
On Sunday, January 17, 2021, we will be traveling to Old Town (ME) from Lewiston-Auburn (ME), leaving here at 8:30 am and arriving up there by 10:45 am. As above, we can deliver within a mile along the route for $15.00 that morning, or further off the route for $1.98 per mile. There will not be room in the Jeep to deliver on our return back late that afternoon.
Please Note: If we do have to deviate from our planned route i.e. by driving 10 miles out of our way, it would require adjusting our time schedule somewhat, meaning we’d have to leave earlier in order to still arrive at our destination on time.
Any and all items plus delivery charges must be paid for in advance.
I’ve been searching without luck for information on the Asian artist known as Jaimy who created this elephant plant stand, as well as many other animal-themed items.
There’s not much I can tell you about this elephant. There’s one for sale on eBay for $99.00 but no description so I don’t know whether it’s the same size as this or not. I found another that sold for less money a year ago but it was smaller than the one we have. Therefore, I’ve priced this one less than what’s on eBay, but more than the smaller one.
What is obvious though is the detail that went into creating this piece. Just look at the photos!
The elephant plant stand is made of resin, which makes it lightweight and durable, so it should last a long time without the kinds of damage seen with cement or concrete pieces, although I don’t think this guy was ever in an outside garden. His condition is too good, with no discolorations at all. Both pieces I found on-line were described as vintage, so apparently this guy is at least 25 years old (which is the common definition of vintage).
Other lawn decor, such as our Resting Lion, are definitely vintage/antique… The Resting Lion is concrete and weighs a hefty 35 pounds! (Using our search feature, enter Lawn and Garden, and you’ll be able to check out Resting Lion, as well as our other outdoor decor.)
Condition: Our elephant plant stand is in excellent condition.
Dimensions: 11″ tall x 11 1/2″ long x 9 1/2″ wide.
Price: $78.00. Plus, of course, the 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $4.29 for a total of $82.29
Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm. Shipping & Delivery: Free local pickup. We can deliver within Lewiston-Auburn for a $15.00 delivery fee, or Gray/Portland (along the 202 Route, or just off it) early Wednesday mornings for the same $15.00. Shipping via USPS is $15.00.
Remember this black bear, glass-topped coffee table from… when? The 60s? Well, it’s back!
Well, perhaps not back but this one has survived the decades. He’s awfully cute, and perfect for a rustic camp or mancave!
Condition: It’s in decent shape but definitely has some dings and blemishes. You can see the white spots where small pieces of bear – which has multiple ridges like the old popcorn ceilings – have rubbed or broken off. (I’m thinking a black magic marker, shoe polish or furniture scratch fix-it would do the trick.)
The beveled glass, which is wicked heavy, is in perfect condition.
The one other problem is that the felt or cloth backing on the bear’s back (where it meets the floor) is missing. It might be a good idea to replace it, although there’s probably no real need.
Dimensions: The bear is 15″ high x 15″ deep x 26″ long. The glass top is 43″ wide by 32″ deep by 1/4″ thick. This is a large coffee table.
Price: $125.00. Plus the 5.5% required Maine State Sales Tax of $6.88, for a total of $131.88.
We don’t recommend shipping this piece as the price would be prohibitive.
