We have a small bunch of freebies in the alley by our back door, right off Park Street in Lewiston.

There are a couple of bowling balls (one in a bag), a great Jaguar brand carryall, some golf clubs, an old-fashioned ironing board, shoes, and miscellaneous other items.

Just turn onto Park Street right after Heritage Collectibles’ front door (189 Main St, at the intersection with Park).  You’ll see #5 Park, which is our bookshop, Heritage Books & Maps (there’s a big sign in the window, that says “The Roving Bookman”).

Right at the end of the building is our alley, and that’s where you’ll find the current freebies.  Please come get them before it rains!

Hope you can find something worthwhile!

SOLD! Nearly 200 Year Old Barn Drill

Antique Drill 005Antique Drill 007 Antique Drill 004

We’re excited to offer this antique barn drill which was also known as a post & beam boring machine. This piece was made in the early 1800’s… it’s nearly 200 years old!

The wooden framework is solid – it’s neither busted nor rotted. There is a gear on one side that slides in and out that allows you to crank the rigging back to the top to the safety lock position. Overall in great condition. Would be a great display in any collection, could easily be refinished, or displayed, or used as is.

Includes a wooden hinged box that was made to hold 8 auger bits. The box has 5 of its original bits.

Condition: As you can see in the pictures, the wooden framework is solid – it’s neither busted nor rotted although the right rear horizontal frame member has a crack in it.  However the piece is still strong and stable.  Overall, it’s in great condition given its age.

Price:  Now just $195!  (Was $235.00.) Plus Maine sales tax of 5.5%.

SOLD! “Delicious Coca Cola Relieves Fatigue…” Mirror for Your Restaurant, Kitchen or Mancave!

Coke Mirror

When one researches “Coca Cola mirror” using either a general search, or on the subscription services we use to price various pieces, one can find all sorts of variations on this mirror. The lettering is in red on some phrases in one variation, and in red on other phrases in other variations of the mirror.

Here, the letters “In the World” are in red, which appears to somewhat rarer than the other versions of this mirror.  We have no idea if that means this particular one is more valuable than others or if this version just happened to be broken more frequently and therefore not sold… or whatever.

I haven’t yet gotten the knack of photographing anything with a glass covering (the glare gets me every time); I particularly have difficulty with mirrors.  You’ll have to see this one to decide if it’s for you.

Condition:  The mirror is in good to very good condition.

Dimensions:  37.75″W x 25.75H

Price:  $24.00.  Maine State Sales Tax of 5.5% applies.

Layaway Plan:  Please see our “Details: Layaway Plan” page.

SOLD! Signed Initiation Paddle (?) from 1955

Wooden Paddle 1955 007Wooden Paddle 1955 012

We believe this is an initiation paddle of some sort (hopefully it wasn’t actually used, but was more ceremonial than utilitarian).  The front says “To Bob from Dane” in extravagantly curly-cue lettering.  The back contains more than two dozen signatures, and is inscribed with the date “1955” as well as some other lettering we can’t quite make out.

The pictures below include closeups of the signatures.

Condition:  The paddle is in good condition, but with some dings here and there.

Dimensions:  I’ll have to add them later, but the pictures show it is fairly large… maybe 18″ long?

Price:  $18.00 plus Maine sales tax of 99c for a total of $18.99.

Please note: The shop at 189 Main Street in Lewiston is closed from September 1-25, 2017 while Linda visits her daughter, son-in-law and new grandson!

Some Quick Details:

  • Prices Are Firm.  We do not negotiate on the prices listed in our blogs… they’re set based on what the item cost us and our expenses in running the shop.
  • Sales. We do occasionally have sales or reduce the prices on an item (usually if the item has been in the shop for at least 6 months with plenty of marketing).  If so, that reduced price will be posted.
  • Holding Items.  Sorry, not without payment.  We used to when we first opened the shops, and found that too often the person asking us to hold an item never came back and we lost sales in the interim to someone who was standing there with cash in hand. Obviously, that’s not good business.
  • Questions.  This is tough… I’d like to be responsive to everyone who has questions, but I work full time as a social worker, and full time at this shop hoping that someday it will make enough money so I can retire from that social work job.  This means I have very limited time to respond to questions, especially if those questions have already been answered in this blog or on our various posts.  So I may not have time to respond…
  • Dealers. We’re happy to talk to you!  Please remember to bring a copy of your State Resellers License.

Payment Information:   Please see our “Details: Payment & Pricing” page.

SOLD! Nice Little Upholstered Chair

 Green Chair

Here’s a nice little upholstered chair just waiting for someone to take it home.  While it’s nothing particularly special to look at, it is comfortable.  It would make a great camp or porch chair, or even one for the kids’ playroom.  The color is sort of a light sage.

Condition:  As you can see from the pictures, the fabric has been rubbed up against and is not in perfect condition.  However, there are no rips or tears that I’ve found (other than a small piece missing from the piping on the back) and it should last quite a while.

Price:  $40.00 plus Maine sales tax of $2.20 for a total of $42.20.

Shwayder WWII Trunk 001 Shwayder WWII Trunk 003

This is a fabulous WW II era army trunk in green made by Shwayder Bros, which was/is also the Samsonite luggage company.  Note the metal reinforcements on the corners and around all the edges.

Condition:  Given its age and use, the piece is in great shape. The inset is worn on the edges as one would expect from removing and replacing it, and there is definite wear on the inside of the trunk itself as well as scratches outside, but overall, this is in far better shape than any other we’ve seen.

Price:  Was $125.00.   Now just $50.00!  Maine State Sales Tax of 5.5% applies.

SOLD! Handmade Live-Love Settee from Reclaimed Materials

 Knowlton Live Love 017

If you’re one of the many people who’ve been in the shop and fallen in love with our Live Love Settee but found the price was just a bit too high right then, then keep on reading!  And if you haven’t actually seen it in person, then we’re thinking you should hurry on in very soon…

A Maine craftsman created this very cool Live Love Settee (and the wonderful Pet Beds which you can find here: https://heritagecollectiblesmaine.com/2016/04/13/pet-beds-from-repurposed-vintage-furniture/).

For the new price, keep on reading until you get to the “Price” section below, then come on in and check the settee out in person!

Here’s the background info…

So I get an email from this guy who asks “Would you be interested in selling this hand-made settee from a repurposed old dresser?”.

Are you kidding??  YES!  It’s absolutely wonderful!

This is what we’re all about… finding new uses and homes for quality older materials, offering art & treasures for everyday life, pricing things fairly, supporting others in improving their lives and/or building their businesses, and wherever possible reducing our own carbon footprint on this earth.

The Live-Love Settee meets all of those criteria!  Better yet, it’s absolutely beautiful!

The settee was created from an old dresser which was two-layer painted, then distressed with gold flecks added to accent the green & gold in the fabric.  It has rustic stencil work, and the seat even hinges, giving a nice storage space inside!

This is a one of a kind piece, created by a Maine artisan who, after a few decades as an adult in an adult job, seems to have found his artistic calling.  We are very excited to have this and other work of his in our shop!

Condition:  The settee is in perfect condition.  It was intentionally distressed to give it that primitive farmhouse look and feel.

Dimensions:  Approximately 38 1/2″ W x 18 1/2 D” x 33″ H.

Price:   Was $248.00.  NOW JUST $195.00!  Maine State sales tax of 5.5% applies.

Location:  Den of Antiquities, 1399 Bridgton Road, Westbrook  ME  04092.  We are booth # 56!

NOTE:  With the exception of books, maps & music, much of our antique and other inventory can now be found at one of the great antique shops or flea markets listed here:  https://heritagecollectiblesmaine.com/details-hours/

(We’ve recently reduced the number of other locations from 5 to just 2 for the time being; getting to all of the other shops in addition to our full-time social work job was just a bit much for me.)  We hope you will enjoy our booths at those locations as you did our shop on Main Street.

For those dying to check out the revamped Heritage Collectibles, Books & Maps, we are still in the same building, but our new entrance is at the back of that building.

Just turn off Main Street in Lewiston onto Park Street and park in the first available parking spot.  The entrance is through the door at the end of the building on the right hand side.  You’ll see signs in the windows (“Retail Store” and “Heritage Collectibles” and “Antiques” as well as others; you’ll also see my silver Jeep Liberty parked there.  Our “Open” flag should be out, too – or perhaps Johnny’s favorite black & white pirate flag!  Just knock on the industrial looking door; we’re glad to see you!

Thank you to everyone who has supported us for the past four years!

SOLD! Comfy Bedroom Chair in Blue. Or Is It Grey? Or Green?

 Blue Chair

Here’s a nice comfortable chair that would be great for your bedroom or den; it’s an unassuming little chair (well, it’s not all that small), but is great for curling up in.

The only question is … what color is it?  I say blue, with some silver threads but the husband thinks it’s green or gray.

Condition:  The fabric is an understated color and really is not faded as my (lousy) pictures suggest.  The chair is in very good condition.

Price:   $60.00 plus Maine sales tax of $3.30 for a total of $63.30.
