SOLD!! August 2016 Sale! Lingerie Chest / Dresser – It’s Lingerie Luxury! Save 20%!

Lingerie Chest 2 Lingerie Chest 3 Lingerie Chest 4 Lingerie Chest 5 Lingerie Chest 6 Lingerie Chest 7 Lingerie Chest 8 Lingerie Chest 9 Lingerie Chest

It’s our August 2016 Summer Sale, and the price of this stunning piece has been reduced by 20% – from $249.00 to $199.20! What a great deal for a wonderfully luxurious piece!

August 2016 Summer Sale August 2016 Summer Sale List

This 9-drawer (plus an additional cabinet space) lingerie chest is stunning… it’s another one of those pieces I’d just love to take home with me!  Brilliant white with black interior, it will make storing your bras & panties give you the feeling of living in the lap of luxury… and what girl doesn’t secretly want a little indulging?  (Really, you know you do! After all, you’re looking at this blog, right?)

Condition:  The chest is in almost pristine, ab-sa-root-ry gorgeous condition.  I initially wrote that the only flaw was one tiny little red mark on the front, which it came with, but since then have found that there appears to be a dark rub mark on the left front leg as you face the dresser.  (See picture below.)  This may have come from something being pushed up against the dresser leg (our shop is pretty crowded).

Dimensions: The dresser is 17 3/4″ W x 53 1/2 H to the surface. There is a 1 1/2″H lip on three sides of the top surface. The dresser is designed to bow out in the front so that the top is 15″ D with the lower half getting progressively deeper until the bottom is 21″ D.

Price:  Was $249.00; now $199.20!  Maine sales tax of  5.5% applies.

SOLD! Project Dresser – Not Sure What Happened to It!

093102

I’m not really sure what happened with this old wooden dresser.  What it looks like to me is that someone redid it as an entertainment center.  The original back appears to have been removed and replaced with that fake panel stuff (there are new screws down the sides of the panel), and a hole cut out for wiring.  There is no top drawer.

The other drawers are in good condition except for missing hardware.

Condition:  The piece is in good, solid condition for its age except for the damage seen on the top.  Our take is that it should be refinished, perhaps in a distressed chalk color, and turned into a display center of some kind.  Add some groovy hardware, and you’ll have something pretty unique!

Dimensions:  about 34″W x 34″H x 16″D

Price:  $36.00 plus Maine sales tax of $1.98 for a total of $37.98.

SOLD! Art: Tarzan, Jane and the Dinosaur by R W Field, Auburn (ME) Artist

Tarzan 3

John and I were at an auction one day, both of us going in different directions searching through the kinds of items that we’re each attracted to, when both of us zoomed in on this original painting.

Tarzan? Jane? A dinosaur? A steel knife?  Holy cow, this is freaking cool!

We were so taken by the painting that we didn’t even realize until we got it back to the shop (after a strong but brief bidding war) that we already owned an original piece by this artist… one reason we didn’t realize what we had is because this painting is like nothing else R W Field has ever done – before or since.

And as it turns out, Mr Field (who has since been in our Lewiston shop, although we forgot to get him to autograph the back of this piece – face palm, indeed!) is a local artist, with works on display throughout New England, including a previous display at the Copley Society of Art.  The piece we owned prior to this one was originally purchased – I believe – through the Maine Public Broadcasting Network (Channel 10) auction about 10 years ago.

Tarzan Tarzan 8 Tarzan 7 Tarzan 6 Tarzan 4 Tarzan 2

Condition:  This original, unframed, one of a kind piece, is in near perfect condition with brilliant colors and interesting details.  My pictures do not do the colors justice.

Dimensions:   16″W x 20″H.

Price:  This piece of amazing local art is $400.00, which is typical of the prices Mr. Field’s artwork brings.  Given that this is the only commissioned piece he ever did, and it’s very different than his other work, $400.00 is likely way under-priced.

Layaway Plan
:  Please see our “Details: Layaway Plan” page.

Payment Information:   Please see our “Details: Payment & Pricing” page.

Shipping & Delivery Information:  This piece can be sent via the USPS’s “Media Mail”, which takes a week or so, but only costs $3.95 for shipping & handling. Otherwise, please see our “Details: Shipping & Delivery” page.

5 Risque (aka Trashy) Vargas Girls Pin Ups!! A Great Gift for That Special Someone!

Alberto Vargas

Alberto Vargas

Vargas Girl. "I told him my heart wasn't in it but he settled for the rest."

Vargas Girl. “I told him my heart wasn’t in it but he settled for the rest.”

We love pin ups.  At least, we love pin ups of a certain type, where there’s a level of modesty and certain body parts are left to the imagination.

These pin ups by Alberto Vargas are not so very modest, although they aren’t actually crass.   They were taken from vintage issues of Playboy magazine, and placed in plastic with added cardboard to provide some sturdiness.

Vargas Girl. "Don't be silly - it's a money belt."

Vargas Girl. “Don’t be silly – it’s a money belt.”

You’ll note that for the purposes of this blog, I’ve added little modesty panels over certain body parts.  You’ll also note that these were created in a rather less politically correct era: thus the “Indian maiden” and the very Caucasian-looking African American models.

Vargas Girl. "When I say you're bad, baby, that's good."

Vargas Girl. “When I say you’re bad, baby, that’s good.”

Vargas Girl. "There's one thing I hate about sex... thank goodness I can't remember what it is."

Vargas Girl. “There’s one thing I hate about sex… thank goodness I can’t remember what it is.”

Vargas Girl. "So you're from the Bureau of Indian Affairs?"

Vargas Girl. “So you’re from the Bureau of Indian Affairs?”

The artist, Alberto Vargas (9 February 1896 – 30 December 1982), was among the most famous of the pin up artists.

According to Wikipedia:

“His work was typically a combination of watercolor and airbrush. His mastery of the airbrush is acknowledged by the founding of the Vargas Award, awarded annually by Airbrush Action Magazine, which was named after him. Despite always using figure models, he often portrayed elegantly dressed, semi-nude to nude women of idealized proportions. Vargas’ artistic trait would be slender fingers and toes, with nails often painted red.

Vargas is widely regarded as one of the finest artists in his genre. He also served as a judge for the Miss Universe beauty contest from 1956 to 1958.

Notable women painted by Vargas include Olive Thomas, Billie Burke, Nita Naldi, Marilyn Miller, Paulette Goddard, Bernadette Peters, Irish McCalla and Ruth Etting.”

We have other art depicting female nudes, most of which are vintage, classic paintings of the female back.  We also have a number of modern figurals.

Format:   Centerfolds from vintage Playboy magazines.

Condition:  Very good.

Our Price:
$25.00 each or all 5 for $95.00.  State of Maine Sales Tax of 5.5% also applies.

# Available:  One set of the 5 centerfolds.

NOTE: Now that we’ve downsized at our main location, our new entrance is at the back of the building!  You’ll see some signs in the windows saying “Heritage Collectibles”, “Retail Shop” and “Welcome”!  And if our “Open” flag is out, just come on in!
