SOLD! Curtained Country Boxes – Perhaps TP Cabinets?

 Country Boxes

We have two primitive shelf type boxes, each with a single door that latches shut, a curtain in the “window” area of the door, and plain inside with no shelves.

We don’t really know what they were used for… to store something tall and thin?  Just for the decorative aspect?  The larger, green, one has a cut-out in the back, so I suspect that someone tried to put a light fixture in there (??).  A friend says they were probably used to store toilet paper… that would work.

Condition:  Structurally they’re in good shape. The larger one has the cut-out in the back that was done kind of messily (as the photo below shows)… it doesn’t have the good square edges as one would hope.  It also has some kind of damage on the back corner, which luckily doesn’t show when up against a wall.  The pictures at the end of this blog give a better sense of what they look like from front and back, as well as the insides.

Dimensions:  The shorter, pink-curtained, one is 21″H x 5 3/4″W x 6 1/4″D.   The larger, green-curtained, one is 25 1/4″H x 6 1/2″W x 6 1/4″D.

Price:  $6.00 each or $9.50 for both.  Maine State Sales Tax of 5.5% applies.

Layaway Plan:  Please see our “Details: Layaway Plan” page.

Payment Information:   Please see our “Details: Payment & Pricing” page.

Shipping & Delivery Information:  Please see our “Details: Shipping & Delivery” page.

SOLD! Country Cabinet – Great Shape, But Well-Loved By a Child

Country Cabinet in Blue Country Cabinet in Blue 4 Country Cabinet in Blue 3 Country Cabinet in Blue 2

This primitive country cabinet must have been used as a child’s desk or storage shelving because there are kids’ stickers and crayon marks on it!

It has a drop down front with shelves inside, one long drawer, and three half sized drawers next to an open cabinet space with door.

Other than the decorative love added by someone’s creative child, it’s a lovely little piece in really good condition.

Condition:  Structurally it’s in great shape.  Cosmetically… well, kids can do a number on furniture, can’t they?  This is a great project piece!

Dimensions: About 41″H x 25″W x 11 1/2″D.

Price:  $26.00.  Maine State Sales Tax of 5.5% applies.

In memory of my beloved husband John K Snyder… 20 Sept 1956 – 21 Oct 2016.

He loved our shops, especially the section we called Heritage Books, Maps & Ephemera – that was his baby.  Johnny was an avid reader, who loved the feel of real books in his hands… history was his forte, but in true Renaissance Man fashion, John knew a lot about a great many subjects.  He would often be so fascinated by a book he was reading that he would excitedly read aloud passages to me, so we could discuss the ideas contained therein.

He loved me like crazy, and oh how I loved him.

Help support The Grief Warrior Project, a suicide prevention and grief support organization by making purchases from Heritage Collectibles, Books & Maps.  All profits (after expenses) go to helping us help others.  I’m also a volunteer for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

Dear Petty Thief

Stolen

Dear Thief,

I know our little flower beds outside our shop weren’t doing so well, and looked kind of sad.

I’m sure you meant well by pulling up the remaining plants – more than likely you thought they deserved a better home with you than in our wretched little space.

However… we were putting in a fair amount of time tending to that tiny garden, and had plans to add more colorful flowers later.

Now we won’t bother.

Seriously, what ails you, anyway?  What makes you think it’s okay to steal from us?  And yes, pulling up our plants is stealing.  It doesn’t matter what the value of something is, or where it’s located, taking something without permission that doesn’t belong to you is stealing.

Okay, we get it.  We understand that sometimes people want something and for whatever reason, can’t have it.  We’ve been there with a budget so tight that paying bills is a desperate challenge each and every day.

We’ve been there trying to figure out when – and if – we’ll ever be able to pay back those to whom we owe money, and wishing we could afford things that other people have.

But other than the stupid teenage pranks that many of us pulled (and which we grew out of but still cringe over), we have never once deliberately taken something from another person with no intention of paying them for it or reimbursing the expense.

Yes, the little garden was pretty forlorn-looking.  And now it’s just plain pathetic.

But it was ours.  OURS.  Not yours. And you had no right.

Vintage Nick Knowlton/Katahdin! Hardcore Rock n’ Rolla from 1982

Nick Knowlton 7 Nick Knowlton 4 Nick Knowlton 3

Older locals from Lewiston Auburn will remember the band Katahdin… and its lead singer Nick Knowlton, who sadly passed away recently after an amazing career.

The Hardcore Rock ‘n Rolla album dates back to 1982, when I would have been in my mid 20s.  I’m not sure when the 45 (A – Gimme a Little Sign and B – Lightnin Strikes) came out, but I sure wish I had taken the time to give Nick a call a couple of years ago.  We get busy, and I never did reconnect with him.

Condition:  The album is in very good condition; the 45 has some dirt smudges but doesn’t appear to have any serious scratches.

Price:  $15.00 for the two items plus Maine sales tax of $.83 for a total of $15.83.

NOTE:  With the exception of books, maps & music, most of our antique and other inventory can now be found at the Undercover Antique Mall in Oxford.  FMI:  https://heritagecollectiblesmaine.com/details-hours/

We hope you will enjoy our revamped shop, as well as our booth in Oxford, as you did our original retail space on Main Street.

For those dying to check out the revamped Heritage Collectibles, Books & Maps, we are still in the same building, but our new entrance is at the back of that building.

Just enter 9 Park Street, Lewiston into your GPS and park in the nearest available spot.  Our entrance is through the door at the end of the building on the right hand side.  You’ll see signs in the windows (“Retail Store” and “Heritage Collectibles” and “Antiques” as well as others; you’ll also see my silver Jeep Liberty parked nearby.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us since August of 2104!

SOLD! “All About Eve” – Marilyn Commemorative Plate

  Marilyn A

When we first posted that we had two Marilyn commemorative plates, I wrote that I couldn’t decide which one I liked best… the cool, white and slightly distant Marilyn from All About Eve, or the cheeky Marilyn smiling over her shoulder… and asked our readers “Which do you prefer?”.  Obviously, someone preferred the saucy Marilyn as that one has since sold!

Condition:  The remaining commemorative plate is in excellent/like-new condition (so was the other one!).

Price:  $20.00 plus 5.5% Maine State sales tax.

SOLD!  Maple Chest of Drawers with Funky Pulls

 Maple Dresser Maple Dresser 5

This is a nice clean 4-drawer maple dresser.  It’s solid, and heavier than it looks.

Someone obviously didn’t like the original drawer pulls and replaced them with knobs, so although it’s fully functional (the drawers slide easily with no sticking), it looks kind of odd.

We thought about replacing the pulls with the right kind of hardware, but would have to include that extra expense (including our time) into the price; it seemed better to just leave the dresser as is and keep the price lower.

The dresser could be refinished, or used as is… it has some scratches and wear & tear from use, but otherwise is in great shape.

Check out additional pictures at the end of this blog.

Price:  $65.00 plus 5.5% Maine State sales tax.

Dimensions:  41″H x 32″W x 15″D

Condition:  Some scratches and wear & tear but nothing significant, other than the obvious drawer pull problem…

SOLD! Vintage 12″ Diameter “Saratoga” Globe with Cherry Wood Frame – Floor Model

 Globe

This 12-inch topographical globe from Replogle’s “World Classic Series” is a pre-1990s Saratoga style.  Take a look at that cherry wood frame – this classroom quality floor model is nearly 3 feet high, and will add just the right touch of Old World atmosphere to any office or library!

Price:  $195.00 plus 5.5% Maine State sales tax.

Dimensions:  34″H x 18″W x 18″D

Condition:  Some minor scuffs on the wood frame, but nothing significant.

Location: The globe will be moving to our booth (#23) at the Hathaway Mill Antique Mall, 10 Water Street, Waterville ME 04901 soon.

Please note: The shop at 189 Main Street in Lewiston is closed from September 1-25, 2017 while Linda visits her daughter, son-in-law and new grandson!

Some Quick Details:

  • Prices Are Firm.  We do not negotiate on the prices listed in our blogs… they’re set based on what the item cost us and our expenses in running the shop.
  • Sales. We do occasionally have sales or reduce the prices on an item (usually if the item has been in the shop for at least 6 months with plenty of marketing).  If so, that reduced price will be posted.
  • Holding Items.  Sorry, not without payment.  We used to when we first opened the shops, and found that too often the person asking us to hold an item never came back and we lost sales in the interim to someone who was standing there with cash in hand. Obviously, that’s not good business.
  • Questions.  This is tough… I’d like to be responsive to everyone who has questions, but I work full time as a social worker, and full time at this shop hoping that someday it will make enough money so I can retire from that social work job.  This means I have very limited time to respond to questions, especially if those questions have already been answered in this blog or on our various posts.  So I may not have time to respond…
  • Dealers. We’re happy to talk to you!  Please remember to bring a copy of your State Resellers License.
