SOLD! Lovely Dining Table & 6 Chairs (see next blog for matching hutch)

054

Timeless, elegant and very solid, this dining room set is GORGEOUS!

The table is a traditional double pedestal design made of solid wood – none of that fake particle board stuff.  Without the 3 leaves, it readily seats 6.

Dining Table Showing Top Dining Table Showing Design Dining Table Showing Another Corner Dining Table Pedestal Legs 2

Beautifully crafted and supported by detailed double pedestals, the table features three expandable 15″ leaves and pairs exquisitely with its matching upholstered chairs. Perfect for gatherings and entertaining, this set is ideal for elegant formal dining, as well as everyday, more practical “boardinghouse reach” meals with the family.

Definition of “boardinghouse reach”:
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/boardinghouse-reach
Reaching
across fellow diners for food instead of asking them to pass it. For example, At holiday meals when the whole family is gathered, Dad always scolds at least one child for his boardinghouse reach. This term alludes to the formerly common boardinghouse practice of seating all the residents at one large table and to the rudeness of those who simply reached across others to help themselves. Heard less often today, it is not quite obsolete. [c. 1900 ]

Table Dimensions: 62″L x 42″ W x 30″ H
Chair Dimensions: 20″ W (at the widest point) x 20″ D x 42.5″ H (back).  The captain’s chairs are 22″ W at their widest point.
Seat Height: 18.5″, Seat Depth: 15.5″
Set includes: One (1) table with three (3) 12″ leaves, Six (6) chairs, including Two (2) captain’s chairs

Other:  The table and chairs do have some minor scratches and dings, as shown in the photos.  (The white areas in some of the photos is flash glare, not an imperfection in the table!)

Price: Just $300.00 at Heritage Collectibles.

There is a wonderful matching hutch described in another blog, which is $400.00.

SOLD! Antique 3-Drawer Bureau in Green

 073

This nice little chest of drawers has stood the test of time.  Unlike those pieces for sale at furniture stores that have been through a “multi-step finishing process [that] results in a weathered, distressed patina” (an actual quote) – with a high end price to match – this bureau is the real deal.   It’s been “weathered and distressed” through love, use and time.

The dresser was passed down through a local family from a grandmother (and was possibly her mother’s) to the granddaughter we received it from. Aside from some black stains on the top and wear & tear on the edges, it’s in great condition and is very clean inside.

Leave it as is, with a bureau scarf covering the less beautiful areas, or refinish it in your own personal style!

Dimensions:  42.25″ wide x 33″ high x 20″ deep
Condition: Very Good
Style: Vintage, Early American, Country
Details:  Original key holes for a skeleton key in each drawer, larger top, legs on wheels, and a curved front panel.

Just $75.00 at Heritage Collectibles.

Inside the drawers - they are very clean.

Box Lots – Often a Treasure Trove, but Sometimes….

 condoms

We love getting box lots at auctions. Sometimes we get them at estate sales, although that’s rare.  We get lots of them via donations to our thrift shop.  (Note: An auction box lot is typically a pile of odds & ends that the auctioneer doesn’t consider worth the effort of selling individually, because those pieces probably won’t fetch much.)

Box lots at auctions are a gamble.  Sometimes we miss the chips, dents and dings because we don’t really put the effort into looking each piece over carefully.

But even if we’ve picked through them ahead of time, it seems there’s always a treasure or two in every box.  We’ve been surprised by a very old postcard, a piece of pottery worth far more than we’d expected, and – once – a 1920’s bust that on the books is worth several hundred dollars.  Too bad it hasn’t sold in the past year!

Today I was going through a box lot that was donated to the thrift shop, and which, along with some mouse droppings, included a covered crock with old papers (mostly appliance manuals) in it.  Okay, the papers really were worthless so I started digging through them and trashing each handful, when at the bottom of the crock I found a couple of dozen (wrapped and sealed, thank goodness) condoms!

Nope… not gonna inventory, try to sell or give away those suckers.  Into the garbage you go!

I do have to question why anyone would store their condoms in with old appliance manuals.  Then again, I guess I don’t really want to know.

Gotta love it.

Vintage Cream of Wheat Ad - girl & blocks

Vintage Cream of Wheat Ad – girl & blocks

Cream of Wheat is one of my all-time favorite cereals (although frankly, I’d forgotten all about it until I saw these advertising posters).  It’s rich, smooth and creamy… no wonder it’s been around for so long.

The two vintage posters are framed and in good shape, despite a couple of dings.  They measure 11.5″ wide x 14.5″ tall.

Each poster is $15.00.  Both for $25.00.

Vintage “Lady” from Disney’s Lady & the Tramp (?) Figurines

Two "Lady" figurines from Disney's Lady & the Tramp (?).

Two “Lady” figurines from Disney’s Lady & the Tramp (?).

We aren’t certain if these are supposed to be Lady from Lady & the Tramp, but they sure look like her – and they definitely look more like her than others that have recently sold as Lady! (They just don’t have the blue collar she wore, but then, neither do some of the others that sold under the “Lady” name.)  There are no identifying marks on either figure.

Condition & Dimensions: They’re 8″ high and in near perfect condition, with no chips, cracks or crackling.  Each “Lady” makes me smile because they remind me of my childhood; the famous spaghetti scene may be why I love pasta so much!  Together, the two are guaranteed to lift the heart of any Disney lover!

Price: $12 each; $20 for the pair.

Lovely 4-Piece Decorative Set in Asian Style

This lovely dresser set consists of a decorative plate, a picture frame, a tall vase and a small covered pot. The pictures don't do the colors justice.

This lovely dresser set consists of a decorative plate, a picture frame, a tall vase and a small covered pot. The pictures don’t do the colors justice.

I just love this dresser set with an Asian art type theme… it is dramatically beautiful, yet in an understated way.

There are four pieces, which we’ll sell individually for $10 each, or just $28 for the entire set – it really is a set that should not be broken up if possible.

We try to describe any damage, nicks, blemishes or other problems of which we are aware in any and all of our listings, and always include plenty of clear photographs which are integral to the description, so please review them closely.
Also, please be aware that vintage and antique items are unlikely to be in factory condition, so if you aren’t used to buying antique or vintage items – and are in fact looking for a pristine, unused item – a new reproduction may be better suited for you.
We ordinarily do not “clean up” items because such cleaning may detract from their value.
We are specific and honest in our descriptions because we want happy buyers who will return and/or refer their friends!

SOLD! Cobb Family Sign

Look at this great carved sign for the Cobb family!

Look at this great carved sign for the Cobb family!

We love this rustic “The Cobbs” family sign, with the name carved into a wonderfully done corn cob!  It’s weathered perfectly as you can see from both the front and back pictures, and would make a super cool gift for anyone with the surname of Cobb!

It’s about 24-28″ wide by 18″ high including the hanging post.  (Sorry, I forgot to take the measurements before I left the shop last night.)

Just $60.00

Great New Inventory inc a Stained Glass Lighthouse (SOLD), a Spy Glass, and a Sign for the “Cobb” Family (SOLD)

 Hours - Week of 12 06 15

We were just at an auction on Friday and picked up a number of great new items, including a wonderful dining room table with 6 chairs and huge hutch!   (It’s possible that we’ll be a little late opening on Monday morning because we have to pick up some of the items that were too big to fit in the Jeep.)

We also got a box of vintage cookbooks, a carved sign saying “Cobb”, a painted sign for “The Roving Bookman”, some old electronics equipment including an oscillator, a spy glass, a vintage music cabinet, a stained glass piece featuring a lighthouse, and loads more!

Pictures and descriptions are coming soon!

In memory of my beloved husband John K Snyder… 20 Sept 1956 – 21 Oct 2016.
He loved our shops, especially Heritage Books, Maps & Ephemera – it was his baby.

He loved me, and oh how I loved him.
