SOLD! Paper Wicker Caned Chair

Chair, Caned Seat with Pattern

Chair, Caned Seat with Pattern

This vintage chair came out of a 1795 farmhouse in Harpswell, along with several other wonderful old pieces.

According to Weavin’ Wicker Woman Blog (wickerwoman.com):

MAN-MADE PAPER FIBRE RUSH or PAPER WICKER

paper-rush-seat1-300x225Paper fibre rush chair seat

Paper fibre rush can be identified by its barber-pole or peppermint stick twist and each strand is exactly the same size in diameter.

The man-made material used in this seatweaving process was invented in 1904 and was made to resemble the rattan reed that had been used in Victorian wicker furniture.

Paper rush is actually made from twisted thin sheets of paper that have been glued and sized to stay twisted.

weaving-paper-rush-seat-bridge-300x225

Paper rush chair seat weaving

This rope-like material resembles the strands of natural cattail leaf rush or bulrush.

Paper twist, rope, or paper wicker is very strong and durable and is available from Cane & Basket Suppliers in a continuous pre-twisted strand coil, either by the pound or 35 pound reel.

Little or no water is needed when weaving with paper rush to soften or mellow the strands.

In fact, water is the enemy of paper rush and too much or soaking the paper can destroy it.

Knots or joins are made to connect one strand end to another and are covered in the gussets or pockets in the triangles and/or on the bottom of the chair seat, so they are not visible.

Dimensions:
17 1/2″H (to the seat) | 37″H (to the seat back) x 15 1/4″W x 15″D.

Condition: Very good.  The caning is intact, and while the chair has typical signs of wear and tear, it’s a quality piece for its age (whatever that might be).

Price:
$18.00 plus Maine sales tax of 5.5% for a total of $18.99.

Layaway Plan:  Please see our “Details: Layaway Plan” page.

Payment Information:   Please see our “Details: Payment & Pricing” page.

Chair, High Back - Yellow Patterned Upholstery

Chair, High Back – Yellow Patterned Upholstery

47″H (to top of chair back); 19″H (to top of seat) x 25″W (at its widest point) x 22″D.

Price:
$30.00 plus Maine sales tax of 5.5% for a total of $31.65.

Payment:
We aren’t currently set up to accept credit or debit cards, but hope to have that taken care of soon.  In the meantime, we’ll take good old US currency, checks (include your driver’s license and phone numbers, please), and PayPal.

Message re Our Products:
Most of the items we offer are vintage, antique or simply pre-owned.  Therefore, reasonable wear & tear is to be expected, and our items are sold as seen and as described in the photos and/or in person.
We try to describe any damage, nicks, blemishes or other problems of which we are aware in any and all of our listings, and always include plenty of clear photographs which are integral to the description, so please review them closely.
Also, please be aware that vintage and antique items are unlikely to be in factory condition, so if you aren’t used to buying antique or vintage items – and are in fact looking for a pristine, unused item – a new reproduction may be better suited for you.
We ordinarily do not “clean up” items because such cleaning may detract from their value.
We are specific and honest in our descriptions because we want happy buyers who will return and/or refer their friends!

SOLD! Masts by William Seaman

 001

We don’t know the actual title of this stunning piece as we haven’t been able to find it listed anywhere, but the stark beauty of it suggests an uncomplicated name.  So we call it, simply, “Masts”.

It came out of an estate here in Lewiston, along with several other wonderful and original pieces of art.  Whether you are a collector of nautical art, or just appreciate the complex simplicity of this piece, we’re certain you will never tire of having it showcased in whichever room you choose to display it.

Dimensions:
  37.5″H x 37.5″W

Condition:
Very good.  There is a small hole in the paint on the underside of the frame, but otherwise the piece is in good shape.  Note: The white splotches are flash glare from my camera, and are not seen in the painting itself.

Price:
$90.00 plus Maine sales tax of 5.5% for a total of $94.95.

Payment:
We aren’t currently set up to accept credit or debit cards, but hope to have that taken care of soon.  In the meantime, we’ll take good old US currency, checks (include your driver’s license and phone numbers, please), and PayPal.

SOLD! Reproduction Grandfather Clock

Grandfather Clock

Grandfather Clock

For a video of the chimes (Westminster Chimes) hit play.

The chimes sound on the hour, every hour.

This is a nice modern reproduction grandfather clock.  While it has a few dings if you look closely, they don’t detract from the beauty of this piece.  The clock runs on batteries, keeps good time and chimes on the hour.  For some reason the pendulum doesn’t swing although someone else may know how to make that work.

Dimensions:  79″H x 22″W (at the widest point) x 9″D.

Condition:
Very good.  As noted above, for some reason the pendulum doesn’t swing although someone else may know how to make that work.

Price:
$95.00 plus Maine sales tax of 5.5% for a total of $100.23.

Payment:
We aren’t currently set up to accept credit or debit cards, but hope to have that taken care of soon.  In the meantime, we’ll take good old US currency, checks (include your driver’s license and phone numbers, please), and PayPal.

This vintage music cabinet has seen better days, but it’s still a wonderful piece. (We have a similar cabinet at home, but it doesn’t have the mirror this one does.)

You might want to repurpose the cabinet using ideas similar to these, which were found on Pinterest and Google Images:

We are specific and honest in our descriptions because we want happy buyers who will return and/or refer their friends!

REDUCED! Like Our Smaller End Table, We Can’t Quite Identify This Style, But It’s Uber Fab!

Uber fab end table!

Uber fab end table!

Just as I wrote about our other piece by the same artist, the colors on this end table are fabulous, baby… and look at that fringe and those boots!

Along with the other fringe and boots table, this is definitely one of the more unusual end tables we’ve ever seen.  We picked it up from another dealer in Western Maine who said he believes it (and our accompanying one, see previous blog) was made here in Maine somewhere.

This table just reeks of self-indulgence!  Grab a good book, an adult beverage and find some big band music or switch to an old movie musical.  You will feel amazing!  It’s like a mini-vacation in your own home, any time you want!

Condition:  Excellent.

Dimensions:  26″W x 14 1/2″D x 22″H

Price:  REDUCED!  Now just $50.00 at Heritage Collectibles!  (Was $75.00.)  Buy both for only $90.00.  (The other side table can be seen here: https://heritagecollectiblesmaine.com/2015/12/20/not-sure-what-style-this-end-table-is-but-its-definitely-unique/.)

Layaway Plan:  Please see our “Details: Layaway Plan” page.

Payment Information:   Please see our “Details: Payment & Pricing” page.

SOLD! Repurpose or Upcycle This Maple Bar Into Something Contemporary!

Maple Bar

Maple Bar

This maple bar was found at an auction in Mechanic Falls recently, and we were happy to scoop it up!   Recycle it, repurpose it, upcycle it… your imagination is your own limitation!

Here are a couple of ideas I found by quickly scanning the internet…

Bar - Upcycled into a Bit More Contemporary

Bar – Upcycled into a Bit More Contemporary

Bar - Upcycled into a Changing Table

Bar – Upcycled into a Changing Table

This would make a wonderful coffee station – just repaint it in a glossy black with white accents!  (If I had the time and the space at home, I’d do it myself for sure!)

Dimensions:  29 3/4″ W x 17 1/2″ D x 33″ H

Condition: As shown in the pictures.  Use as is, or refinish it.  This would look great in a chalk blue or other country color!  Or go retro with some 1950s or 60s colors!

Just $30.00 at Heritage Collectibles!
