SOLD! Update This Antique Gateleg Table – Be Creative, Make It Remarkable!

Once upon a time, our gateleg table must have been stunning. Now, it’s in rather rough shape, but we’re certain there’s someone who knows how to restore it. We’re partial to the idea that the restoration could actually be more of an upcycling, and done in a more modern vein, to match the four green striped chairs we picked up at a recent auction:

So what is a gateleg table? According to Wikipedia:

“A gateleg table is a type of furniture first introduced in England in the 16th century. The table top has a fixed section and one or two hinged leaves, which, when not in use, fold down below the fixed section to hang vertically.

As such, gateleg tables are a subset of the type known as a dropleaf. The hinged section, or flap, was supported on pivoted legs joined at the top and bottom by stretchers constituting a gate. Large flaps had two supports, which had the advantage of providing freer leg space in the centre.^[1] The earliest gateleg tables of the 16th and 17th century were typically made of oak.”

Condition: Structurally, this table is in very good condition. However, it needs to be refinished, as shown in the pictures.

Dimensions: 35″W x 30 1/4″H. Open, the table is 47 1/2″L. Folded, with the leaves dropped, the table is only about 13″.

SOLD! Lovely White Patterned Chippendale Style Wingback Chair

This lovely white patterned Chippendale style wingback chair will add an elegant touch to any room! The quality is superb and the chair is mostly unblemished, with just a few nicks on the wood legs and a spot on the left side (facing it) that may have come from brushing up against something before or after the auction.

Condition: This chair is in near perfect condition, with no noticeable wear and just a few nicks on the wooden legs, as well as the above-mentioned spot.

Dimensions: 43″H x 20 1/2″W x 28″D

Price: $90.00 plus Maine sales tax of 5.5% for a total of $94.95.

This is a very nice Chippendale style wingback chair, manufactured by Hickory Hill. The quality is superb and the chair is mostly unblemished, with just a few nicks on the wood legs.

Clean-Outs, Downsizing, and Clearing Your Stuff…

Or if you’re already doing clean-outs but don’t want to deal with the final items that seem to have little value…

We will take that “stuff” off your hands, saving you the disposal hassles such as people who arrange to take things, but don’t show up; the time involved (and possible expense) of taking things to the dump; and so forth.

Many items we clean out will be donated to very low income individuals, who can get a voucher for up to $25 worth of basic household goods per month through Papa’s Thrift Shop (Linda’s also a full-time social worker so any time we can give back somehow, we do). We’ve given away thousands of dollars worth of clothing, books and other goods in the past 18 months.

The rest will be sold to pay for our time and expenses*.

*If you have art or other collections or quality furnishings, we can talk to you about their value, and how you might be able to benefit financially from their sale.

We LOVE this set of Pyrex Turquoise Amish Butterprint 480 Cinderella Casseroles!

The set consists of casseroles 473, 474, and 475 with all 3 lids included; it is in near mint condition.

Casserole #473 is 1 quart; #474 is 1 1/2 quarts; #475 is 2 1/2 quarts.

Condition: This set is in near perfect condition, with no noticeable wear..

Prices: $50.00 for the entire set plus Maine sales tax of 5.5% for a total of $52.75. This same set sold on eBay a couple of years ago for $61.00, so this is a deal!

Individually, the prices are #473, $16.00; #474, $20.00; #475, $24.00.

SOLD! AUGUST 2016 SALE! Rustic Old Cart with Steel Banded Wheels

Now this cart is a beauty! It’s not often we find something as rustic as this and in such (relatively) good shape… We were very lucky to get it for a decent price, which we’re passing on to our customers. (The wheels alone are worth at least $10 each!)

Dimensions: I neglected to bring the measurements home with me so will have to update this blog later. Offhand, I’d say the bed of the cart is about 3 1/2 to 4 feet long.

Condition: As shown in the pictures, the cart is in rough to good condition. The handle is broken off at the base and there are a number of cosmetic issues. However, take a look at those wheels! This is a fabulous piece that someone can do wonders with.

SOLD! Windsor Chairs – Probably Oak

According to Wikipedia, “A Windsor chair is a chair built with a solid wooden seat into which the chair-back and legs are round-tenoned, or pushed into drilled holes, in contrast to standard chairs, where the back legs and the uprights of the back are continuous. The seats of Windsor chairs were often carved into a shallow dish or saddle shape for comfort. Traditionally, the legs and uprights were usually turned on a pole lathe. The back and sometimes the arm pieces (if arms are present) are formed from steam bent pieces of wood.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windsor_chair

Our two Windsor chairs are good and solid. Although they appear the same at first glance, they were made somewhat differently as you can tell from the backs. The spindles on the right-hand chair do not go all the way through the arched back, while those on the left do.

Condition: As shown in the pictures, the chairs are in good to very good condition; the one on the left being in better shape than the other. There’s a close up of the right hand one’s seat where the spindles meet, showing some minor splitting.

Price: $15.00 each plus Maine sales tax of 5.5% for a total of $15.83.

Retro Butterfly Television Tray

Check out this retro 1950s television tray with butterflies! It’s the kind of thing that is appealing in an odd way…the tray is definitely useful but it’s also rather kitsch (i.e. tacky). Frankly, I love it!

Condition: As shown in the pictures, the television tray is in very good condition. It has some minor rust on its legs, but otherwise is very cool.

SOLD! Vintage Cabinet to Refinish or Upcycle

This is a great old cabinet made of solid wood… none of that particle board stuff. It’s seen better days, for sure, but is still in good shape. If you’re handy with refinishing or have been itching to upcycle or repurpose a vintage cabinet, then this is the one for you!

Here are some ideas found by taking a quick review of the ‘net:

The cabinet came out of a 1795 farmhouse in Harpswell, along with several other wonderful old pieces.

Dimensions: 27 1/2″H x 27 3/4″W x 15 1/2″W.

Condition: Good. Although there is some damage (as shown in the pictures), this cabinet has great “bones” and overall is solid.

This lovely 3-tier vintage plant stand came out of a 1795 farmhouse in Harpswell, along with several other wonderful old pieces.

Dimensions: 24 1/2″H x 12 1/4″W x 12 1/2″D.

Condition: As shown in the pictures, this piece is in very good condition. It has some minor wear and tear due to its age, but otherwise is sturdy and could go into your home without refinishing.

Price: $18.00 plus Maine sales tax of 5.5% for a total of $18.99.
