This original wood carving bears F Simeon’s signature underneath. F Simeon was a well-known artist, often depicting Haitian figures, especially women carrying baskets of vegetables or fruit on their heads.

I searched through every site in which I could find a photo or reference to his works, and could not find this particular piece in any of them. The woman in this carving is older and more worn out than the others. When you look at her face, you get a sense of how tired and discouraged she is, but with the acceptance that this is her life, although I see a hint of annoyance, as well.

The piece is larger than most of the similar ones I found.

Professional auction sites typically expect his pieces to go for $100.00-$200.00 or more.

Condition:   Excellent.  This carving is in perfect condition.

Dimensions:   31″H x 10″W (basket) x 6″D.

Price:  $94.00, plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $5.17 for a total of $99.17. Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm.

Shipping & Delivery: Because this item is on display 20 miles from us, I may not even know for several days (usually over a weekend) whether or not an item is still available, but can bring it back to Lewiston for you the next time I’m in Brunswick updating our display. At that point, you’d be able to take advantage of local pick up at my office (by appointment only), or I can get it delivered to you per the next paragraph.

We can deliver within Lewiston-Auburn most days, or along the Lewiston-Lisbon-Topsham-Brunswick route (dates vary), for a $15.00 delivery fee, or Gray/Portland (along the 202 Route, or just off it) early Wednesday mornings for the same $15.00.

Shipping via USPS is $20.00.
