SOLD! Vintage, Reproduction, Cast Iron Dachshund Boot Scraper / Door Stop

Updated Information:  A reader pointed out that this is not an original because the photos clearly show a Phillips head screw holding the two sections together.  As I purchased this a decade ago from an auctioneer who described it as either “old” or “vintage” or “antique” (I no longer remember), and as I found this exact one listed as both “vintage” and “old” (and even “antique”) on many selling sites (including Worthpoint, which is the antiquer’s “bible”), I had no reason to believe it’s not at least 50 years old, which is the popular definition of “antique”.

It’s an interesting business, this vintage/antiques/collectibles one. As the owner of a high end shop where we once sold some of our inventory said to me several years ago, she’s been in the business for decades, and she still learns something new every day.  She added that it’s impossible for one person to know everything about vintage and antique items.

And just now, I showed the dachshund to someone who’s been in this business for decades as well.  He also pointed out the Phillips head screw… and added that this piece typically sells for $35.00-$45.00.  So my price is right on the mark.

In any event, I greatly appreciate the reader offering me a bit of her knowledge.

Thank you for looking!

Dachshunds were my husband’s favorite breed of dogs, and this boot scraper / door stop captures the breed’s long-nosed face perfectly.

Condition:   Very good.  There are some blemishes, which isn’t uncommon for old iron, but overall, Hans (my name for him) is in great shape.  He’s a little cutie, and you get a sense of the dachshund stubbornness and curiosity, as he waits (im)patiently for what comes next.

Dimensions:  14″ L x 5″ H at the tip of its curled tail.

Price:  $40.00.  Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales tax, of course.

Shipping & Delivery:  Please see the tabs above.

1) Details: Shipping & Delivery for mail order options.  (Shipping is not recommended given the weight of the inventory compared with its probable value.)
2) Supporting the Grief Warrior Project if you’d like an appointment to see the item(s) in person prior to purchase.
