SOLD!  Camel Cigarettes Neon Sign – Very Cool!

We picked up this neon Camel cigarettes sign in perfect condition at a recent auction.  It reminds me of my grandfather, who smoked Camel non-filters for decades, staining his fingers orange from the nicotine.  (Yet he lived well into his 90s!)

A wonderful piece for your home bar, mancave or business.

Condition:  Excellent.  It’s solid and heavy duty.  The colors are bright and all work perfectly.  This sign is in better shape than many that have sold recently, based on what we’ve seen on our antiques subscription services.

Dimensions:   The entire piece is about 2 1/2′ H x 2′ W.

Price:  $125.00.   (Plus the obligatory 5.5% State of Maine Sales Tax, of course.)

Please Note:  We will not ship this item.  Neon tubing is very fragile, and although the piece could be sent through the mail, we aren’t comfortable with trying.  Not only is there the possibility that the piece would break (and fixing it almost impossible), but the shipping costs would be exorbitant.  We do not want a customer to lose money on one of our items.  Thank you for understanding.

Quick Details:

  • Prices Are Firm.  We do not negotiate on our prices… they’re set based on what the item cost us and our expenses in running the shop.
  • Sales. We do occasionally have sales or reduce the prices on an item (usually if the item has been in the shop for at least 6 months with plenty of marketing).  If so, that reduced price will be posted.
  • Holding Items.  Sorry, not without payment.  We’ve been screwed on this more than once, and won’t do it any more.
  • Questions.  This is tough… I’d like to be responsive to everyone who has questions, but I work full time as a social worker, and full time at this shop hoping that someday it will make enough money so I can retire from that social work job.  This means I have very limited time to respond to questions, especially if those questions have already been answered in this blog or on our various posts.  So I may not have time to respond…

SOLD! Haven’t You Always Wanted a Zither?

How cool is this?  I ran across this piece at an auction where guitars were going for a pretty penny and thought, “Well hey… anyone can buy a guitar but how many people can get their hands on a zither?”  (As it turns out, it’s not that hard, but this is the first one I’ve been able to get for the shop.)

Condition: It seems a little banged up although I don’t think the dings and scratches will affect its sound; it clearly was quite a nice instrument when it was first made as noted by the markings, including the manufacturer’s name.

I unfortunately am not the musician in the family (my late husband was), so can’t tell you much else about it… it has 30 strings but there’s an additional peg that looks as though there should be a 31st string.  I haven’t a clue if a string is missing or if the peg is there for another reason..

Dimensions:   19 1/2″ L x 11 1/4″ W x 1 3/4″ D.

Price:  $65.00.   (Plus the obligatory 5.5% State of Maine Sales Tax, of course.)

SOLD! Nice Little Entertainment Center – With Lazy Susan Style Top!

This little entertainment center makes it easy for television viewers to move that TV so it’s facing in any direction you want, with a built-in lazy Susan on top!  It also rolls for easy moving, although the wheels don’t show in the picture. (Actually, as of this moment, I haven’t even looked under it to see what the mechanism is, although I have noted that it rolls readily.)

Some of our more project-oriented or artsy customers might consider using this piece for something other than a television stand; by butting it up against the wall, the top would remain motionless… and it could be made into a great little coffee & tea station, or even a mini bar!  A little black paint and you have a piece with a very modern look!  (One customer actually did that with a previous piece… what a great project!)

Or you can leave it as is because it’s in pretty good shape…. it really is a well-made piece.

Condition:   Very good.  It does show a few signs of usage (especially some scratches under the lazy Susan section.

Dimensions:  About 31″ H x 32″W x 18″ D.

Price:  $45.00.   (Plus the obligatory 5.5% State of Maine Sales Tax, of course.)

Quick Details:

SOLD! Classic Wingback in Pale Yellow and Green

We knew when we bought this lovely old wingback that it had some flaws in the fabric (some stitching on the seams is slightly undone as seen in the pictures).  However, during the transport to the shop, a small section of fabric was torn.  It’s about in the middle right of the back of the chair, as you face it (as in the photo above).  The tear can be seen in one of the pictures below.

Condition:  Other than the minor flaws noted above, the chair is in really good condition.

Dimensions:   41″H (at the highest point of the back) x 31″W x 27″D.

Price:  Because of the fabric & stitching problems I noted prior to transporting the chair, I’d initially thought to price it at $75.00 (which is $20 less than our usual $95 for wingbacks).  However, with the additional tear in the fabric, the price has been reduced to just $55.00.   (Plus the obligatory 5.5% State of Maine Sales Tax, of course.)

Quick Details:

  • Prices Are Firm.  We do not negotiate on our prices… they’re set based on what the item cost us and our expenses in running the shop.

SOLD! Black Tempered Glass & Steel Computer Desk

This is a basic little computer desk made of black tempered glass and steel.  The drawer slides out for a desktop keyboard, or you can use it for whatever.

The rectangular white patches shown in the pictures are reflections of the overhead fluorescent lights.  The glass top does have a few scratches.

Condition:  Very good.

Dimensions:   29″H x 26″W x 19″D.   The pull out tray is 12″D.

Price:  $12.00.   (Plus the obligatory 5.5% State of Maine Sales Tax, of course.)

SOLD! Tribal or Indigenous Shelving Unit or Rack of Some Kind

I’m not certain what this was intended for… perhaps to hold bottles of wine?  The shelves are slanted downwards towards the back, so they aren’t really conducive to displaying books.  It apparently came out of a home with authentic masks and faces from Ghana (blog on those coming soon); it’s not known if this is also from any of the nations on the African continent.

In any event, it’s an interesting piece.  Note: some individuals may consider it a bad stereotype or an inappropriate caricature which may be a Western perception of what art “should” be.

Condition:  Very good.  It was obviously intended to be a little rough or primitive but it has a few dings that may be wear and tear.  And one of the figure’s feet seems to have some damage.  Otherwise, it’s a pretty sturdy piece!

Dimensions:   33″H x 19″W x 18 1/2″D

Price:  $65.00.   (Plus the obligatory 5.5% State of Maine Sales Tax, of course.)

SOLD! Nice Little Double Pedestal Table in Blue

This is a nice double pedestal table that we got from an old church that was no longer serving constituents.  Someone painted it in a country blue with white accents.

Condition:  The table is in good shape, although it could use some tightening up.  The paint is also in pretty good shape except for a scratch across the top..

Dimensions:   Coming soon.

Price:  $50.00.   (Plus the obligatory 5.5% State of Maine Sales Tax, of course.)

Please note: The shop at 189 Main Street in Lewiston is closed from September 1-25, 2017 while Linda visits her daughter, son-in-law and new grandson!

Some Quick Details:

  • Prices Are Firm.  We do not negotiate on the prices listed in our blogs… they’re set based on what the item cost us and our expenses in running the shop.
  • Sales. We do occasionally have sales or reduce the prices on an item (usually if the item has been in the shop for at least 6 months with plenty of marketing).  If so, that reduced price will be posted.
  • Holding Items.  Sorry, not without payment.  We used to when we first opened the shops, and found that too often the person asking us to hold an item never came back and we lost sales in the interim to someone who was standing there with cash in hand. Obviously, that’s not good business.

SOLD! Marilyn! Need We Say More?

03-04-marilyn-7

This framed reproduction of Marilyn Monroe appears to have been cut out of an over-sized magazine, based on the full color picture on the reverse.  After a search through hundreds of pictures, I can’t find this particular one, so don’t know who the photographer was.  It has an Andy Warhol-esque quality to it, but there were other artists who digitized photos of famous stars.

In any event, it’s absolutely lovely.

Condition:  Excellent.  The frame is in perfect condition.

Dimensions:   The photo itself is 13 1/2″ H x 10 1/2″ W; overall, with frame and matting the piece is 21 1/2″ H x 17 1/2″ W.

Price:  $32.00.   (Plus the obligatory 5.5% State of Maine Sales Tax, of course.)

Condition:
Good.  It’s a decent starter table.  You’ll have to attach the legs yourself, as I don’t have room in the shop to display it all put together.  (Of course, that makes it easier to transport, too!)

Dimensions:   32″H x 32″W x 42″L.  The extra panel is 12″W.

Price:  Just $24.00!   (Plus the obligatory 5.5% State of Maine Sales Tax, of course.)

Quick Details:

In memory of my beloved husband John K Snyder… 20 Sept 1956 – 21 Oct 2016.
He loved our shops, especially Heritage Books, Maps & Ephemera – it was his baby.

He loved me, and oh how I loved him.

Follow our blog at https://warrior-project.org, in honor of my husband, and all others who have been lost to internal demons that in the end, overwhelmed them.

All of the profits after expenses from Heritage Collectibles, Books & Maps and Papa’s Thrift Shop will go to help fund The Warrior Project, a suicide prevention drop-in and counseling center in the process of being developed.

(Please Note: The Warrior Project is in no way intended to be reflective of, or piggy back off, Wounded Warriors which serves those military personnel wounded after September 11, 20o1.  Like too many others, John was a warrior long before then.)

SOLD! Antique Vanity with Two Drawers

vanity02-12-vanity-9

This antique vanity is a sweet little piece.  We got it from someone who had had it passed down from her grandmother.

The drawers work fine without sticking.

Refinished, it would be stunning – or use it as is and soak in the sense of history it offers.

Condition:   Very good.  It definitely shows some sign of usage – after all it’s been around the block a few times.  There’s some damage to the paint shown in the pictures.

Dimensions:  About 32″ H x 3 1/2′ W x 18″ D.

Price:  $95.00.   (Plus the obligatory 5.5% State of Maine Sales Tax, of course.)

Location:  This item can be found at our booth (#56) at the Den of Antiquities, 1399 Bridgton Road, Westbrook ME.

All profits from the sales of our inventory (after expenses, of course!) support The Grief Warrior Project, a suicide prevention drop-in center being developed.  You can find information on The Grief Warrior Project at warrior-project dot org.

***************

NOTE:  With the exception of books, maps & music, most of our antique and other inventory can now be found at one of the great antique shops or flea markets listed here:  https://heritagecollectiblesmaine.com/details-hours/

We hope you will enjoy our booths at those locations as you did our shop on Main Street.

For those dying to check out the revamped Heritage Collectibles, Books & Maps, we are still in the same building, but our new entrance is at the back of that building.  You’ll see some signs in the windows saying “Heritage Collectibles”, “Retail Shop” and “Welcome”!

Just turn off Main Street in Lewiston onto Park Street and park in the first available parking spot.  The entrance is through the door at the end of the building on the right hand side.  You’ll see signs in the windows (“Retail Store” and “Heritage Collectibles” and “Antiques” as well as others; you’ll also see my silver Jeep Liberty parked there.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us for the past three+ years!
