I really have no idea why I love this sign so much, as there’s nothing particularly special about it… perhaps it’s because I grew up on a farm, and this seems to be made from old barnboard!
Anyway, when we had our bricks and mortar shop, this was front and center in one of the foyer windows. I’ve been reluctant to give it up, but I will probably never again have an actual shop… too much else to manage!

“Art is about emotion; if art needs to be explained it is no longer art. ” – Pierre-Auguste Renoir
This is a wonderful group of quality framed art prints, just a few of the some 4,000 or so paintings Renoir created in his lifetime.
For those who want to learn more about this master, you can find great discussions of various paintings at http://www.renoir.net. I’ve included some snippets below.
Enjoy!
#1. Blonde Girl Combing Her Hair. 1894.
I’ve also seen this listed as Young Girl with Red Hair. I’m not certain of the exact title. It is very sweet and lovely, however. Dimensions: 24″H x 20″W Condition: Professionally framed in metal gold tone, and in excellent condition. Price: $35.00. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $1.93 for a total of $36.93.
#2. Gabrielle. Date, uncertain.
Gabrielle Renard (August 1, 1878 – February 26, 1959) was a French woman who became an important member of Renoir’s family, first becoming their nanny, and subsequently a frequent model for the artist. Dimensions: 23″H x 15 1/2″W Condition: Professionally framed in metal gold tone, and in excellent condition. Price: $35.00. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $1.93 for a total of $36.93.
#3. Dance at Bougival. 1883.
Dance at Bougival is currently in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. It has been described as “one of the museum’s most beloved works”.
According to Wiki: “The painting depicts two dancers in the village of Bougival, surrounded by a lively scene of café goers. The actual subjects of the painting are disputed, but regardless it is well known for the appearance that they are in motion, making the viewer feel that they are actually there. Renoir uses mostly pastel colors in the painting, but he includes a vibrant pop in the hats of the both of the subjects.”
Dimensions: 30″H x 20″W Condition: Professionally framed in metal gold tone, and in excellent condition. Price: $35.00. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $1.93 for a total of $36.93.
#4. Girl with Watering Can. 1876.
An impressionist work, which was apparently painted in Claude Monet’s famous garden at Argenteuil, and may portray one of the girls in Renoir’s neighborhood in a blue dress holding a water can.
The painting is exhibited at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.
Dimensions: 28″H x 22″ W Condition: Professionally framed in metal gold tone, and in excellent condition. Price: $35.00. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $1.93 for a total of $36.93.
#5. In the Meadow. 1888-1892.
Between 1888 and 1892 Renoir painted a number of works in which the same pair of girls—the blonde wearing a white frock and the brunette a pink one—engage in leisurely pastimes.
Dimensions: 28″H x 22″ W Condition: Professionally framed in metal gold tone, and in excellent condition. Price: $35.00. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $1.93 for a total of $36.93.
#6. Woman at the Piano. 1875-76.
From Renoir.net: “Renoir was one of the most dedicated figure painters among the Impressionists. Enveloping his subjects, who were usually female, in an aura of fantasy and sensuality, he created a confident, immensely appealing art. Like Manet, Mary Cassatt, and others, Renoir often painted women in domestic interiors, either daydreaming or reading. In this painting, he depicted for the first time a model playing the piano, a subject to which he would frequently return.”
Dimensions: The piece is in storage, and I have to dig it out! My memory is that it’s probably about 22″W x 36″H, although I could be waaaay off. Condition: The frame seems to be made of the same or a similar material as “sirocco” mirror framing and other decor. The print is loose in this frame. Otherwise, it’s in good condition. Price: $20.00. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $1.10 for a total o $21.10.
#7. Young Girls at the Piano. 1892.
From Renoir.net: “In this picture, Young Girls at the Piano, we have a detailed and felicitous account of the surroundings of French family life at the end of the nineteenth century, and yet it does not break down into a clutter of things asking for attention. We see the piano with its candle holders, the chairs, the tasseled draperies, and in the room beyond we get a glimpse of a stuffy but inviting confusion. We may study the costumes and the hairdos the girls wear, and on the piano is a typical “old-fashioned” bouquet of the time..”
Dimensions: About 17″W x 20″H. Condition: The wood frame and matting appear to have been professionally done, although the outside piece of backing has come off. Otherwise, the piece is in excellent condition. Price: $30.00. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $1.65 for a total of $31.65.

This vintage silverware chest was probably considered fairly high end at one time… maybe 100 years ago. Heavy and solidly made, it’s still a nice piece even with its age showing.
The upper section is partitioned with slots for silverware to be stacked; the lower section has doors that open with a drawer that slides in and out. There are handles on either side, and a brass plate on top ready to be engraved.
Includes old silverware, as shown.
Condition: Good. It’s showing its age with a number of dings and blemishes, but is still solid.
Price: Reduced! Was $35.00; now just $20.00! Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax, of $1.10 for a total of $21.10..

Here’s a nice old primitive chest, probably intended for tools. It’s in very good condition for its age!

Condition: Very good.
Price: $15.00 plus 5.5% Maine State sales tax of $.83 for a total of $15.83.

We aren’t sure what election this sign was made for, because an internet search found two “Noels” who were Democratic state governors, but nothing on “Cure” for Representative.
Most likely this was an advertising piece for Rhode Island’s 1972 gubernatorial campaign, which was won by Philip Noel, who was in office from 1973-1977. (The other option found thus far is Edmond Noel, who was governor of Mississippi from 1908-1912.)
Then again, Mr (Ms?) Noel may not have won the election. It appears that the Noel-Cure ticket wasn’t successful for Mr (Ms?) Cure, so Noel may have tanked as well.
In any event, this is a great sign in wonderful condition. If you know of anyone with the family name of Noel, or even the first name of Noel, this would be a wonderful gift!
Why do we still have it? Who knows… I guess it just seems too cool to throw out. Condition: Excellent!
Dimensions: This sign is a large 48″H x 47″W.
Price: $25.00. Add 5.5% Maine State sales tax of $1.38 for a total $26.38.
Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm.
Shipping & Delivery: Shipping this item is not recommended because the cost to value ratio would be prohibitive due to its size. We can’t offer deliver it as it won’t fit in the back of our Jeep, and in fact, it’s in storage in our garage right now! Your best bet is to pick it up yourself!
In memory of my beloved husband John K Snyder… 20 Sept 1956 – 21 Oct 2016.
He loved our shops, especially Heritage Books, Maps & Ephemera – it was his baby.
“Through my art, I try to portray the beauty and humanity that all people share.” – Tim Ashkar.
This is a wonderful framed and matted print.

This antique shoe / boot mud scraper appears to have been hand-made. It’s solid and nifty; my late husband was pretty excited when I picked it up at an auction quite a while back. For some reason, it first landed in a corner under some other inventory where it couldn’t be seen very well, then when I downsized the shop, it ended up in a box and was completely forgotten. But now, it’s out and ready for its new home.
With you, perhaps?
Dimensions: I didn’t measure it but it’s probably about a foot long.
Condition: It’s old, and it’s handmade, and it’s clearly been used.
Price: $15.00 plus 5.5% State of Maine sales tax.
Location & Purchasing: This piece is located in our display case (#27) at Cabot Mill Antiques, Fort Andross, 14 Maine Street, Brunswick ME. You can purchase directly through them by visiting that beautiful shop, 7 days a week from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm (7:00 pm on Fridays).

We can deliver within Lewiston-Auburn most days, or along the Lewiston-Lisbon-Topsham-Brunswick route (dates vary), for a $15.00 delivery fee, or Gray/Portland (along the 202 Route, or just off it) early Wednesday mornings for the same $15.00. Shipping is $10.00.
This is a great country accent piece; unlike too many magazine holders, it’s not at all flimsy and it’s quite spacious. Store your books, magazines, knitting, or other projects!
Price: $18.00, plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax.
Condition: Very good; it does have a few minor dings which are to be expected.
Single or twin candlesticks make great bracelet holders!
A while back as I was glancing through my emails, I saw an article in a Kovels (kovels.com) newsletter with the headline “Orphan Candlesticks as Bracelet Holders”.
I have loads of bangle and other bracelets although I rarely wear them (I’m too much of a klutz). Trying to keep them organized has been a challenge – until I saw that headline.
Voila! Such a simple and brilliant idea!
We have several brass candlesticks in stock – ready to help you manage those pesky but happy-making pieces of jewelry!
Condition: Some are great; others have candle wax in them that would need to be removed.
Dimensions: Sizes range from about 2″ high to about 8″ high.
Price: Variable, depending on the size and condition of the pieces. They’re mostly about $6.00 to about $10.00 each.
