SOLD! Antique Asian (?) Hardwood Chair, With Dragons and Other Carvings – From Our Wild Heart Gallery

This stunning hardwood chair is taking up too much room in my office right now, but I really don’t mind.  In fact, I love it, and will be quite sad when it sells.

I have a thing for carved chairs with folklore themes.  They totally fascinate me, and somehow when looking at the carvings or while resting in such a chair, I can feel the whispers – and sometimes the roars – of our ancestors.  Fanciful, perhaps, but there you have it.  (For another of our carved pieces, see our Green Man Chair: https://heritagecollectiblesmaine.com/2020/12/14/the-green-man-the-north-wind-in-a-fireside-chair/)

I guarantee you… sit yourself in this chair with a tankard of dark beer, beside a winter’s night fire, and you will feel the echoes of the ages.  Man, it probably doesn’t come any better than that.

Condition:  It’s in great shape, other than a few cosmetic dings and blemishes.  The carvings are intact, including the one on the chair’s back.  The one area that has me somewhat puzzled is a carved panel at the top of the chair’s back, which appears to be made from a different wood, doesn’t match the rest of the chair’s carvings, and is slightly loose.

Dimensions:  24 1/2″ W x 24″ D x 39″ H.  It’s 14 1/2″ from the floor to the seat.  It’s a large chair.

Price:  $295.00.  Plus the 5.5% required Maine State Sales Tax of $16.23, for a total of $311.23.

SOLD! Small Pig – From Our Lawn and Garden Shop

Oh my goodness… look at the adorable face on this little guy!

Growing up on the farm meant we had lots of animals, including pigs.  My little sister and I named our first two “Shovelnose” and “Dirtsnout”. Lucky pigs! HA!

This guy, however, is far too cute to be saddled with a name such as one of those.  I’ve decided to call him Fido, because pigs are known to be as smart as dogs, and I just love them!

Yes, we do realize it’s winter in Maine, but one can always look forward to spring, and gardening season, right?

We have quite a few lawn ornaments in stock… Small Pig is just one of them.

Some, like Small Pig, are probably more recent, not really vintage (although he’s made of a good quality stone-like material, and not a resin).

Others, such as our Resting Lion, are definitely vintage/antique… he’s concrete and weighs a hefty 35 pounds! (Using our search feature, enter “Lawn and Garden”, and you’ll be able to check out Resting Lion, as well as our other outdoor decor.)

Condition: The Small Pig is heavy for its size and also is in excellent shape except for what looks like a drop of white paint on its backside. Look at his face!  He’s just adorable! 

Dimensions:  Fido, the Small Pig is 12″ long x 5″ wide x 6″ high.

SOLD! Angel, the Kitty with Wings – From Our Lawn and Garden Shop

Such a sweet little kitty with wings. If you’re a cat lover, this little cutie will touch your heart for sure.

And yes, we do realize it’s winter in Maine, but one can always look forward to spring, and gardening season, right?

Some, like Kitty with Wings, are more recent, not really vintage as they’re made of a lighter weight resin.

Condition:  Kitty with Wings doesn’t appear to have ever been outside (frankly, I don’t really think it’s a lawn ornament but that’s the way it was described at an auction I attended).  Of course, I’ve named her Angel.

SOLD! Upright Pig – From Our Lawn and Garden Shop

So take a look at this guy’s face! Who wouldn’t want him in your garden?

Yes, we do realize it’s winter in Maine, but one can always look forward to spring, and gardening season, right?

We have quite a few lawn ornaments in stock… Upright Pig is just one of them.

We don’t have a good sense of the age of Upright Pig. Is he vintage? Is he more recent? And frankly, we’re not even sure if he’s supposed to represent a character from a book or movie… Apparently he was someone’s creation, as there are initials etched in the base, and he appears to be made of a fired clay (?).   He needs a name but I’m kind of at a loss on this one and so far, am just calling him “Pig“.

Condition: The Upright Pig is in good shape for an outdoor item… and he’s actually rather heavy at about 18 pounds.

What’s a garden without a rabbit? And this guy looks like he’s ready to fall asleep in the sun. Yikes! Watch out for Farmer MacGregor!

We have quite a few lawn ornaments in stock… Sitting Bunny is just one of them.

Some, like Sitting Bunny, are probably more recent, not really vintage because he’s made of some kind of resin). Others, such as our Resting Lion, are definitely vintage/antique… he’s concrete and weighs a hefty 35 pounds! Condition: The Sitting Bunny (Peter, of course) may have been outside, but as he’s made of some kind of resin material, he shows less wear than concrete or cement pieces. 

Dimensions:  Sitting Bunny is 17″ high (13″ above the surface he sits on) by about 7″ wide by 7″ deep.

Resting Lion – From Our Lawn and Garden Shop

Here is a classic concrete/cement lion, designed to watch over your home and garden.

Yes, we do realize it’s winter in Maine, but one can always look forward to spring, and gardening season, right?

While we don’t know the age of our Resting Lion, we’re certain he is vintage, if not antique. Resting Lion is concrete and cement, and weighs a hefty 35 pounds!

Condition:   As mentioned, our Resting Lion weighs a good 35 pounds, and has definitely seen some weathering although he’s still in very good condition. And look at that face!  (There was another, much larger, lion at the auction where I found this guy, but the other was so heavy I couldn’t lift it, so to my extreme disappointment, I had to let someone else buy him.)  Our Resting Lion has been bestowed a proper name for such a regal beast:  King. 

Dimensions:  He is 17″ long by 10″ high by 7″ deep.

Price:   $90.00.  Plus, of course, the 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $3.85, for a total of $73.85.

SOLD! Angel with Harp and Bunnies – From our Lawn and Garden Shop

Yes, we do realize it’s January in Maine, but one can always look forward to spring, and gardening season, right?

Our Angel with Harp & Bunnies seems to be an older, probably discontinued, design, as we can’t find this exact piece via an internet search. She’s made of a resin type material and therefore lightweight for her size. She’s in excellent condition, although she’s definitely been outside, as seen in the discoloration due to weathering.

Other lawn decor pieces, such as our Resting Lion, are definitely vintage/antique… The Resting Lion is concrete and weighs a hefty 35 pounds! (Using our search feature, enter “Lawn and Garden”, and you’ll be able to check on Resting Lion, as well as our other outdoor decor.)

Condition: The Angel with Harp and Bunnies is in excellent condition with no breakage or missing pieces.  As mentioned above, there is some discoloration due to weathering.

Dimensions: She is 20″ high by 10″ wide by 10″ deep.

This is a nice, solid blueberry or cranberry rake. Use or display as is, or – if you’re artsy – dress it up with your own personal artwork!

Condition:  Very good. It has some dings as would be expected of a vintage piece, but it’s in good solid condition otherwise.

Vintage Wooden Triangle Plant Stand

This is an adorable vintage triangular plant stand that would look great with baskets of asparagus ferns or English ivy on its three shelves!

However… I’m not sure whether this was already damaged when I picked it up from the auction house (I won it via an on-line auction, sight unseen), or if it was damaged during the 2-hour drive back.

Either way, it was wicked disappointing to realize that it’s not in the structural condition I’d expected, and that I’ll end up losing money on this item (and sadly on another piece I purchased from this particular auction, which I did notice on pick up).

Dimensions:  Each of the 3 round surfaces that holds plants is 9″ in diameter.  The stand itself is 19″ wide by 31″ high. 

Condition:   Fair to good.  The stand is a decent vintage piece without a lot of wear and tear, and really is quite cute, but the peg on one of the two stretchers on one leg has broken off.  The other hasn’t broken but needs to be re-glued.  My intent is to repair the piece – which won’t take a lot of work or skill – but that’s up to you.  

Price:  If I repair it myself, the price will be $25.00.  If you purchase it as is, it’s $12.00 (and thanks for saving me the time!).
Of course, there’s the 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of either $1.38 or $.66, depending on the price you pay.

Condition:   Excellent condition with no damage.  The auction house states it came from an exceptionally clean home.
