I really don’t know anything about Chinese roof tiles, and can’t seem to find a good resource on them. There are loads of ads and similar (but not the same) items for sale, with most of them claiming they are antique …. and they’re going for big bucks. Some are in the thousands of dollars, which I would imagine a true antique roof tile in good condition would be worth.
Here’s an article from Taipei Times, dated November 15, 2016:
“Koji pottery in Taiwan 台灣的交阯陶
Koji pottery is a type of folk art commonly seen on traditional architecture, combining modeling, firing and painting, that originally developed in China’s Fujian province. Popular themes include auspicious wishes, legends and fables, folk tales and stories from history. The pottery is often used on temples or as decorative elements on traditional residences.
Koji pottery is quite unique: stylistically, and in terms of glaze colors, it is worlds apart from the Song dynasty ru, ge, jun and ding pottery, the underglaze blue porcelains of the Yuan and Ming periods, or the yangcai polychromes of the Qing. The polychromatic koji pottery derives from the tri-chromatic sancai pottery of the Tang, and became popular in the lingnan region of south China during the Tang, through the Song and beyond. After that, during the Ming and Qing periods, it was influenced by the overglaze colors of Jingdezhen and the enamel colors introduced from the West. It was brought over to central and southern Taiwan by immigrants from liangnan, and from this point on evolved into the polychrome koji pottery we see today.
Some people say that the vibrant colors of koji pottery are too gaudy, and lack a refined aesthetic, but I personally disagree. Yes, some rather unsightly examples do exist, but there are others that are completely different. Whether it be the modeling, the beauty of the glaze color, the intriguing lines in the cracks on the glaze surface, or the decorative techniques used, to many people’s eyes koji pottery should be considered more an art form than a type of folk craft.”
If I were to price this based on what sellers are trying to get on eBay, I’d put it in the $500.00 range. When I look at one of my antique sellers resources, it seems that the prices that these pieces have commanded have gone up rather dramatically in the past few years, even for those that may not be true antiques.
I do know that this piece is beautiful, and as far as I can tell, is in perfect condition.
Condition: This female warrior roof tile appears to be in perfect condition, although with the crazing in the glaze that typically comes from age. She was attached to a piece of large cardboard by someone (which was clearly intended to avoid any breakage), and comes with a Lucite stand, along with directions on how to display her. I have not removed her from the amateurish packaging she came in, which obviously was added after the fact.
Dimensions: Our warrior is about 10″ high x 11″ wide x 4″ deep. The Lucite stand that’s included is about 9.5″ wide x 5″ deep x .5″ high. All told, she would be nearly a foot high once displayed on her stand.
Price: $185.00. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $10.18, for a total of $195.18.
Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm.
Shipping & Delivery: Free local pickup. We can deliver within Lewiston-Auburn for a $15.00 delivery fee, or Gray/Portland (along the 202 Route, or just off it) early Wednesday mornings for the same $15.00. Because of a recent disaster shipping another item for a customer, we aren’t thrilled with the idea of trying again. However, if you’d like, we can do it for $40.00 to make sure she arrives safely.
Here’s some great metal art of various creatures and flowers. Don’t you just love them?
A quick check of the internet gives the following information, in the event you’re trying to decide which would best go with your home:
Geckos represent rebirth and life cycles, the circling of energy. They also symbolize there is always hope for rebuilding our own lives. Geckos symbolize energy and magic of the nature and the life in their purest form.
Although the crab lives its life alternating between land and water, its symbolic value focuses on the water element. In addition to self-protection and defense, crabs symbolize emotions, trust, and the cyclical nature of life. …
Butterflies are not only beautiful, but also have mystery, symbolism and meaning, and are a metaphor representing spiritual rebirth, transformation, change, hope and life. The magnificent, yet short life of the butterfly closely mirrors the process of spiritual transformation and serves to remind us that life is short.

This is a great little accent table with ruffles and lace, to add warmth and color to a hallway or bare corner.
Condition: Very good. The linens appear to be in perfect condition, and the artificial floral is quite nice. The round table is a bit wobbly, although I’ve found that to be the case with these tables… they’re inexpensive and only designed for the purpose you see in the photos. A plus is that this one comes with two extra legs with hardware, so you could bolster it if you chose!
Dimensions: The table is about 28″ high by 20″ diameter. The floral piece is about 26″ high by 26″ wide.
Price: $18.00. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $.99, for a total of $18.99.
Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm.

If you’re looking for a few inexpensive but nice vases (3), a lovely canister, a cute Easter bunny decoration and a figurine of Joseph, Mary & Baby Jesus, we’ve got them!
Please Note: Because of the very inexpensive aspect of this small lot, we really can’t answer any questions about it. And we can’t divide the box up or sell individual items. Sorry!
Condition: Very good. We didn’t note any chips or cracks in any of the pieces.
Dimensions: Variable, from about 4″ high to 8″.
Price: Six items for $6.00. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $.33, for a total of $6.33.

Shipping & Delivery: Free local pickup. We can deliver within Lewiston-Auburn for a $15.00 delivery fee, or Gray/Portland (along the 202 Route, or just off it) early Wednesday mornings for the same $15.00. Shipping isn’t recommended as the cost would be more than the value of the items!
Because we sometimes travel throughout Maine and New Hampshire to pick up new inventory, we thought perhaps our customers would like to know if we plan to be near their area at any time, in order to deliver heavier or more fragile items for less than a shipping company might charge.
So here’s a quick overview of some upcoming travel. We’ll try to stay on top of this in case it’s helpful for you! (The above photo is of our constant travel companions.)
Please Note Our Delivery Fees: Generally, our delivery charge is $15.00 around town (Lewiston/Auburn) or anywhere along a route we might be traveling on. (It can take time to package up inventory to be able to deliver it to you safely, and then time to go out of our way and actually do the delivery.) If you’re more than about a mile off the route we’re traveling on, there’s an additional cost of $1.98 per mile that we have to travel off our route.
Last week was so busy, I didn’t have a chance to update my travel plans… this week will be a bit slower. Whew!
On Sunday, January 24, 2021, I’ll be sticking around town (I have to work at my clients’ offices) but do plan to be in my own office during the mid to late afternoon, so could meet you there.
On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday all day, and Friday morning, I’ll be working at my office management business, out of my own office (where some of our inventory is stored) or at my clients’ offices. If you’d like to pick up an item, I’m more than happy to be here for you, but need a specific time so I can make sure I’m available. (And of course, I do have meetings via Zoom that are conducted from my office, and which I must be in full attendance for!)
On Wednesday, January 27, I have to be in Portland for about 9:00-9:30, leaving from Lewiston-Auburn. We (the dogs and I) usually take the pike but can instead travel along 202. We’ll be returning from Portland at about 6:00 pm with the same travel itinerary.
On Friday, January 29, we will probably be heading up to Palmyra in the mid afternoon. We’ll take the turnpike and interstate, and then head west. It’s possible – depending on the weather forecast for Sunday the 31st – that we’ll head up to Old Town first. (If it’s going to be reasonably clear on the 31st, we’ll skip trying to cram everything in on the 29th, and just make the planned trip on Sunday instead.) The expectation is that I’ll be leaving Lewiston-Auburn (ME) at about 3:00, and returning late that night. It’s quite likely that the Jeepster will be full on the way back, but we can make a stop along either 202, or the Sabattus/Litchfield area on the way up. (Alternatively, we could meet you off the Sabattus or Gardiner exits, as the turnpike is our preferred route.)
On Sunday, January 31, 2021, we will be traveling to Old Town (ME) from Lewiston-Auburn (ME), leaving here at 8:30 am and arriving up there by 10:45 am. As above, we can deliver within a mile along the route for $15.00 that morning, or further off the route for $1.98 per mile. There will not be room in the Jeep to deliver on our return back late that afternoon.
Please Note: If we do have to deviate from our planned route i.e. by driving 10 miles out of our way, it would require adjusting our time schedule somewhat, meaning we’d have to leave earlier in order to still arrive at our destination on time.
Any and all items plus delivery charges must be paid for in advance.
We love this pair of classic wrought iron chairs with light brown suede seats, which make great – and useful – accent pieces for any sunroom, dining room, office, or even in front of a vanity or almost anywhere else one might consider!

Dimensions: They are 38″ high x 16″ deep.
Price: $44.00 each or $72.00 for the pair. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax.

Shipping & Delivery: Free local pickup. We can deliver within Lewiston-Auburn for a $15.00 delivery fee, or Gray/Portland (along the 202 Route, or just off it) early Wednesday mornings for the same $15.00. Shipping is $30.00.
I love reindeer; perhaps because my background is Finnish, and my grandmother’s family was from northern Finland. And I love the deer we have here in Maine; just recently, there were 6 of them in my backyard, and I was able to show my 3 year old grandson how carefully one was watching the house – and how he alerted the others to potential danger, and they all ran off, with their white tails up like flags. (So beautiful!)
Anyway, I couldn’t resist buying this set of deer and reindeer at a recent auction, although I knew I wouldn’t be keeping them.
Check out the photos below… there are several wonderful pieces in this lot.

Here’s a nice set of classical style, heavy, bookends, modeled after Rodin’s “The Thinker”.
Condition: Good to very good. There are no broken pieces, but there are quite a few small dings throughout that might be best touched up with a black craft paint or perhaps a furniture scratch repair of some kind.
Dimensions: 9.5″ high x 3.25″ wide (each)
Price: $8.00. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $.44, for a total of $8.44.

Right now, “Oink” is stopping my office door. Or holding it up. Or keeping it open. Or something.
It doesn’t matter what he’s doing; he’s adorable as all get out.
I searched the internet looking for a similar pig to see if there was any cool information I could offer about him. After looking through literally hundreds of photos of cast iron pig door stops that either have sold (through antique shops and auctions) or are currently for sale, I found only one that is identical to Oink – and the price on it is $75.00!
Condition: Oink is in excellent condition, right down to the tip of his very curly tail.
Dimensions: Misplaced the measurements! Will have to update later. I think he’s about 10″ long by 6″ high. He’s good and heavy.
Price: $44.00. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $2.42, for a total of $46.42.
Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm.
