SOLD! Large Victorian Mahogany “Grape Back” Side Chair

This is a wonderful old mahogany chair, which evokes the excesses of the Victorian era – at least, when it comes to furniture.  Not only is the back intricately carved with grapes and leaves, but it has that raised upholstery fabric where the design isn’t woven into the fabric itself.  It’s not “tufted”, but I’m not sure what it’s called. 

Condition:  Very good.  There are a couple of barely noticeable small stains in the fabric, the wood has some scuffs, and a small section under the chair needs to be restapled (see photo), but overall it’s in great shape. 

Dimensions:  It’s about 26 inches wide.  The seat is about 18 inches deep; it’s about 17 inches from the floor to the top of the seat.  Overall the chair is about 4 feet high.

Small Pewter Platter with Lovely Design!

This small platter or shallow bowl (fruit? rolls?) is just lovely and very well made.  When you flip it to the back side, you’ll see that the flower section – which is raised inside the platter – is indented underneath.  That took a bit of extra work on the part of the artisan, just to give the piece an extra sense of being special.

It’s beautifully detailed with a floral design.

Condition:  Excellent.

Dimensions:  7 3/4″ square.  Height varies between about 1 1/4″ and 1 1/2″.

SOLD! Antique Pewter Foot Warmer

We’ve had this for a bit, and while I’ve wondered what it was for, I hadn’t gotten around to asking or doing any research until this morning.  What I found is that this was apparently a foot or bed warmer… you put hot ashes in it, to keep your tootsies from freezing!  (Most bed warmers have much longer handles, but I did find one very similar to this, called a foot warmer.)

It’s beautifully detailed with a floral design.

Condition:  Excellent.

Dimensions:  With the handle, it’s 10.5″ long.  The warming compartment is 4 1/2″ in diameter, and about 1 1/2″ high.

SOLD! Antique Puppet aka “Creepy Doll”

I bought this puppet for my daughter close to two decades ago.  It was an antique then, and hasn’t changed at all in the intervening years, because my daughter wanted nothing to do with her.  She ended up getting named “Creepy Doll”, and was put in storage.  (I actually hesitate to call her that, for fear she’ll put a curse on me.  I’m only half joking!)

A few years ago when we had our bricks and mortar shop, a customer came in looking for similar items.  He was very interested in “Creepy Doll” if I could ever find her, but I didn’t until recently.  And here she is!

My fantasy is that she was part of a roving caravan of Romas (gypsies) and somehow got separated from her people.   Ummmm.  Like her head got separated from her body.  (See photos.)

Condition:  She is old and battered.  But she still has a great deal of spirit.

Dimensions:  She’s 22 inches long.

SOLD! Oversized Martha Stewart Wicker Type Chair in Natural Brown – From Our Lawn & Garden Shop

This is a great big wicker-style patio chair, that when brand new went for the big bucks that Martha Stewart’s furnishings would go for.  Our price is a bit lower.  (HA!)

It comes with a set of pale lime green cushions that are not my favorite… I’d replace them with a bright red to really make this chair stand out!

Condition:  The chair itself appears to be in near perfect condition. 

The cushions are in good shape, but that pale lime green color shows every stain and speck of dirt.  I considered washing the covers to see how they’d look afterwards (they do unzip for that purpose), but the foam inside was sticking on one, so I didn’t unzip the other.  It’s entirely possible that a good hosing down with some detergent would make a difference. 

Dimensions:  Overall height: 36″, depth: 30″, width: 32″.  Height to seat: 14″, with cushion, about 18″.  The seat itself is 22″ wide and 24″ deep, although with the back cushion in place, it’s about 20″ deep.

This is a wonderful old white wicker plant stand.  It appears to have been used inside only, and either it had a faux plant inside, or someone was very careful when watering a real plant… it still looks great!

You can even display a second plant on the shelf below!

Condition:  Other than some unraveling on a couple of the legs, this stand is in excellent condition.

SOLD! Bright Red Bookcase – Another Piece That’s Perfect for a Playroom!

This is a good, solid but lightweight (probably pine) bookcase that like the coffee table in our previous post, someone decided needed to be spiffed up in bright red paint. 

As noted in that other post, I think it was a great idea and if I hadn’t turned our family room into a library, I’d put this shelving in there (along with the bright red coffee/play table for sale in our previous post), and add some other kid-friendly furniture!

The three shelves can be removed and/or repositioned as you like.

Condition:  The person who painted this seems to have taken the quick and easy way out.  The back is not painted, and neither are the undersides of the removable shelves!

Otherwise, it’s in good condition.  Note, the back is made of that thin plywood type wood, and although it looks like it has a long crack or seam, I think it’s just a flaw in the coloration of the backing.  It doesn’t show through on the inside, and when you run your finger along it, there’s no sense of a crack or damage.

Dimensions:  47″ high by 10″ deep by 31 1/2″ wide.

FIRM Price:  $60.00. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $3.30 for a total of $63.30.

Sold! Bright Red Coffee Table with Drawer – Perfect for a Playroom!

This is a good, very solid coffee table that someone decided needed to be spiffed up in bright red paint.  I think it was a great idea and if I hadn’t turned the family room into a library, I’d put this table in there (along with the bright red bookcase for sale on our next post), and other kid-friendly furniture!

Condition:  There is one flaw in the table, which is a small gouge as seen in the photos.  A crafty person could have fun painting a flower around it, or perhaps even a T Rex about to chomp on something!  Or, a bit of wood filler, some sandpaper and paint, and it’s fixed!  (There are a couple of other places where some touch up is needed, such as the top of the drawer, which isn’t at all unusual… there’s usually quite a bit of wear on drawers.)

Dimensions:  18″ high by 23 1/2″ deep by about 42″ long.

FIRM Price:  $48.00. Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $2.64 for a total of $50.64. (We’ll barely make any money as it is on the piece at this price.)

SOLD! Cute Little White Dresser with Great Hardware

We just obtained this nice little dresser via an on-line auction presented by an estate management company we know well and trust, and once again we’ve gotten a great piece!

The photos shown here are not ours. They’re from the estate management company which always does a great job.

Condition:  The dresser is in good condition, the hardware is intact and the drawers move as they’re supposed to.  There is some minor wear and tear as the photos show, but otherwise it’s in nice, usable condition.

Dimensions:  Still have to measure!  It’s approximately 3′ high by 3′ wide (but that’s just an eyeball guess).
