SOLD! “The Modern Fountain of Youth” – A Framed Set of Vintage Advertising Photos Extolling the Virtues of a Fat Busting Machine

About 4 decades ago, I knew a very overweight young woman who went to an exercise club and was told to use one of these machines.  Try as she might, she couldn’t lose any weight from the belt that slapped her legs and hips silly.  She showed me the huge bruises the machine left – I was appalled, and immediately suggested she run, not walk, from that gym.

Sadly, this vintage set of photos shows the lengths that some women will go in the pursuit of beauty, taking to heart the quote attributed to Wallis Simpson, that one can “never be too rich or too thin”.  Of course, the “oscillating machine” is also supposed to work wonders on practically every internal organ as well.

If you look at the back of the frame, you’ll see the contents are held in place by nails, that on first glance I thought were older but despite the rust, probably aren’t extremely old.

I then checked with my daughter, who has a degree in Art History from Skidmore College, who said that for paintings on canvas, staples replaced nails in the 1940s.  However, the nails and framing alone are no guarantee that this piece is 1940s or earlier, as how a piece is mounted and framed is subject to the preferences and whims of the person doing the work.

However, based on the overall characteristics: the fading of the print under the photos, the style, the framing, etc, it does seem that this piece is definitely vintage.  And the frame itself is probably quite old.

Condition:  The frame is in excellent condition.  There has been some fading of the photos and descriptions under them.  The backing has sustained some water damage but that hasn’t gone through to the front.  As you can see from the back (with the tiny nails holding the contents in place), this is almost certainly a vintage piece, although the original nails appear to have been replaced at some point.

Dimensions:   28 1/2″ wide by 15 1/2″ high.

FIRM Price:  $45.00.  Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $2.48. for a total of $47.48.

Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm.

4 Gold Colored Folding Chairs – 2 Are in Good Condition

A while back I bought these four folding chairs without looking at each of them. The first two I checked were in fine shape, but the 3rd one left a bit to be desired, and the 4th – well, the seat could use some duct tape.

They’re just taking up room as I don’t really have a need for them anyway, so out with the old!

Condition:  Two are in very good condition; the other two have damage to the seats as shown in the photos. Well, it appears that the pin holes in the seat of the third chair aren’t showing up well in the photos – sorry!  All have small amounts of rust underneath.

Dimensions:   Standard folding chairs.  I haven’t measured.

FIRM Price:  $15.00 for all 4.  No sales tax as these are mine personally, not inventory of Heritage Collectibles.

Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm.

Shipping & Delivery:  Free local pickup.  We can deliver within Lewiston-Auburn for a $10.00 delivery fee, or Gray/Portland (along the 202 Route, or just off it) early Wednesday mornings for the same $10.00.  Shipping is not recommended as the cost would be considerably more than the price of the chairs.

SOLD! 1925 Hubley Cast Iron Elephant Door Stop – He’s Just Wonderful!

UPDATE: After posting this door stop a couple of days ago, I learned that our elephant is a Hubley, dating back to 1925.  So he’s nearly 100 years old, and was created by the well-known Hubley Manufacturing Company, which was acquired by another company in 1965 and stopped producing shortly thereafter.

Hubley cast iron door stops are carefully crafted and highly sought after by collectors.  I verified through research that this is indeed a Hubley.

Elephants evoke such a sense of awe.  They are such calm and peaceful beasts – until provoked, anyway. There is much I could write about my admiration for their intelligence, family centeredness and brute strength.

According to a Google search, the elephant stands for power and patience. “Seeing an elephant in your dream may be a reminder to be patient and strong through a difficult situation.”

Our cast iron elephant door stop is a good reminder of two characteristics we could all emulate..

Although our followers know I tend to name most animal related items in our inventory, I don’t have one for this guy.  Most that come to mind are too trite.  I’ll let you decide.

Condition:  In excellent vintage condition.  The number 176 is imprinted on the bottom.

Dimensions:   He is about 4 1/2″ high by 5 1/2″ wide by 2″ deep, and weighs about 3 pounds.

FIRM Price:  $58.00.  Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $3.19, for a total of $61.19.

Shipping is $12.00.

Sweet Little Vintage Stenciled Step Stool

If you’re on the short side like many women in my family, reaching into kitchen cabinets can be a royal pain in the you-know-what.

Here’s an easy and attractive answer!

Condition:  Solid and sturdy.  It’s designed to balance well and not be “tippy”.  It’s vintage, and has the expected scuffs and loss of paint along the edges, as well as some fading of the paint (as shown in the photos), but otherwise is in very good condition.

Dimensions:   It’s 10″ high by 18″ long by 11 1/2″ inches wide. It looks larger in the photo above than it really is.

FIRM Price:  $25.00, plus 5.5% Maine State Sales tax of $1.38 for a total of $26.38.

Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm.

Shipping & Delivery:
Free local pickup.  We can deliver within Lewiston-Auburn for a $10.00 delivery fee, or Gray/Portland (along the 202 Route, or just off it) early Wednesday mornings for the same $10.00.  Shipping is $15.00.

SOLD! Two Black Map, Parchment, Sheet Music, Documents, or What-Have-You Cabinets

These are the kind of cabinets that I’m always thrilled to find fully assembled.  There’s little that is so frustrating as to find an item on-line or in a store, only to see the two killer words “Assembly Required”.  No no no no no!  As I have little interest in, or aptitude for, such assembly, this means I either have to look forward to a not so fun couple of hours (replete with a vocabulary better fitting a pirate), or I have to pay someone to do the work.

I fully get that this is how prices are kept down, but still…

In any event, these two cabinets are already assembled.  And they stack well, giving the appearance that the two are one piece.

Condition:  One is in very good condition with few nicks, blemishes, flaws or other issues.  The second cabinet has two areas worth pointing out: a circular mark on top that can be seen in certain light, which suggests a plant or hot pot might have been set on it.  The second issue was a bit of a surprise: the back has been removed for some reason.. This isn’t noticeable unless and until you view the cabinet from behind, and doesn’t affect its usefulness, but it is indeed missing.  Both are good and solid; the drawers slide easily.

Dimensions:   Each is 23 1/2″ high by 20 inches wide by about 14 inches deep. .

FIRM Price:  $75.00 for both, plus 5.5% Maine State Sales tax of $4.13 for a total of $79.13.

Alternatively, the one in better condition is $48.00, while the second one is $38.00.

Shipping is not recommended as the cost might be more than the value of the chests.

Nice Small Cabinet or Entertainment Center.

When I took the photo above, I’d forgotten to move the shelves into position, to show off how nice this little piece looks.  Then of course, after I moved the shelves, I forgot to take updated photos. (I’ve always had one of the world’s worst memories!).

In any event, it’s a nice piece that has a little more design to it than most such cabinets have.

It is, of course, particle board, and you can see that the back has the expected hole cut-out for electrical cords.  But it has two shelves, as well as a cabinet below that can be accessed via the double doors at the bottom.  The lower shelf is adjustable.  The cabinet is on casters, which makes moving it a whole lot easier than it would be otherwise.

I’m not sure what I was thinking when I agreed to pay $28.00 for this piece, other than the fact that I thought it looked nicer than most cabinets of its type.  However, I’d just as soon move it on out as soon as possible (we’re running out of room here!), so it’s for sale for the exact same price I paid for it.

Condition: It’s in good condition.  Structurally, it’s sound.  There are a number of dings and scrapes as you can see in the photos, but overall, it’s worth the money.

Dimensions:   43″ high by 17 inches deep by about 19 1/2 inches wide. .

FIRM Price:  $28.00.   Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales tax of $1.54 for a total of $29.54.

Shipping is $30.00.

SOLD! If You Love Cows, Meet Daisy! Our Vintage Cast Iron Cow – She Weighs Over 20 Pounds!

The first two cows we had on the farm when I was growing up were named (by my sister and me) Daisy and Bessey.  (The bull was called, creatively enough, Bulley.)

One of the girls was a Holstein; the other was a Guernsey.  Bulley… for some reason I remember him as all black, which may mean he was the first of my father’s years of raising Black Angus.  It was a very long time ago, so I’m a bit foggy on it all!

In any event, in keeping with my penchant for naming almost anything in the shape of an animal, I present to you, Daisy.: a 20 pound vintage cast iron cow, which will hold open the most challenging of doors, or just stand there looking all cow-like for your viewing pleasure.

Condition: She’s in excellent condition for her age, whatever that may be.

Dimensions:  She’s about 11″ high by 17″ long by 6 1/2″ deep.

FIRM Price:  $65.00.   Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales tax of $3.58 for a total of $67.58.
