When an Item Description Doesn’t Make Sense

Those who follow this website regularly know that I often will get an item ready to post, then realize I forgot to get the dimensions. It’s always a face plant moment, but I tend to post the item anyway with an apology and the intention of getting the measurements onto the site soon.

I sometimes forget to do it, and I appreciate those who point out my forgetfulness in a kind way.

I make other mistakes on here as well… the wrong photo gets attached to a blog, or I add the tax to the product price but make an addition error. Such things happen, and while I’m not thrilled about them, I don’t let it get to me. And you all are great about not giving me grief. Thank you!

There are times, however, when a blog may not make sense, as I just learned about the Whiskey Barrel table and chair set.

At the time I originally posted the set, I hadn’t yet picked it up from the estate auction, although I had won the bidding, and had the estate management company’s photos.

So in my obsessive need to be accurate, I stated in the blog that I didn’t actually have possession of the set at that point. That’s okay, as it was definitely the case.

BUT… I didn’t remember to update that section of the blog, even after renting a U-Haul and a couple of strong guys to help me move the furniture into a spare office at my business. I left that sentence in, that sentence that said I didn’t yet have possession of the set. Ugh. Bad bad move.

And today, a potential customer decided that I had to be lying about the set. Unfortunately, his mind was made up and there was nothing I could do to change it… he refused to visit my office in person to see that I really do have that set on site; he just decided, based on an editing error on my part, that I was a scammer. And he told me so.

Should I have reviewed that blog in its entirety, which I didn’t do, even after reducing the price of the set significantly? ABSOLUTELY. It was my error for leaving a statement in it that was no longer accurate and could cause confusion. But I didn’t, so didn’t realize that the potential customer went on the assumption that I didn’t have possession of the inventory. But he did not ask why I was saying I did, when the blog said I didn’t. He didn’t question the inconsistency, or let me know that there was an inconsistency. And he jumped to the conclusion that I was a liar and a scammer. (This, despite the fact that FB’s Marketplace lists me as “highly rated”.)

Those of us who make a living by dealing with the public know how critical it is that we are seen as trustworthy professionals. And that includes every blog and every sentence in every blog.

So again, I thank those who point out what I may have missed or forgotten, and appreciate you! And I’ll try to be more diligent about finding and fixing any errors or what may seem like inconsistencies.

Oh, and for a happier thought, here’s a picture of my little knucklehead, Rudi.

SOLD! Large Buffet Warming Tray – Great For When You’re Juggling Several Dishes at Once!

This is a nice basic home buffet warming tray.  It has just one constant temperature (it’s either “On” or “Off”), which is “warm” not hot – and that’s what you want.  It seems pretty heavy duty, and can hold several dishes at once.

By the way, you can see my blurred reflection, as well as those of other items in the room, on the tray’s surface. It’s pretty shiny.  Oh, and that’s a large piece of driftwood in the background of a couple of photos.  (The driftwood is also for sale; see this post: https://heritagecollectiblesmaine.com/2021/01/30/large-driftwood-can-you-see-the-horses-head/).

Condition:  It’s in excellent condition, and was well taken care of by its previous owners.  I checked it out, and it warms evenly across its length and breadth.  It doesn’t have an On/Off switch.  If plugged in, it’s On.

Dimensions:  About 28″ long x 16.5″ wide.  The tray stands on legs that put it 5″ inches off your counter, with the handles on either end, that makes it 6.5″ tall at its highest.

FIRM Price:  $10.00.  Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $.55 for a total of $10.55.

Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm.

Our Apologies, But Holds Over 24 Hours Must Now Provide a 50% Deposit: As we’ve gotten busier, I’m spending a great deal of time juggling multiple requests for the same item.  Most of the time, something comes up in the customer’s life that prevents him or her from getting here, but sometimes I never do here from them again. And in the meantime, other customers who are asking about the item end up moving on when the chair or art or garden statue or whatever isn’t immediately available.  So without a deposit, I’ll now have to implement a First Come, First Served policy.

Shipping & Delivery:  Free local pickup.  We can deliver within Lewiston-Auburn for a $10.00 delivery fee, or Gray/Portland (along the 202 Route, or just off it) early Wednesday mornings for the same $10.00.  Shipping is $15.00.

SOLD! HALF PRICE SALE! MCM Whiskey Barrel Table and Chairs By Brothers Furniture of Kentucky

The photos below are not ours; they were provided by the estate sale company. I had to have someone move the furniture for me as it’s too much for me to handle; they were in a rush and I wasn’t able to get my own photos. (The pieces are presently in storage in a small office, where I can’t get good pictures.)

As you can see, because they aren’t my own photos, the spacing is off compared with my usual inventory posts. I have no idea how to fix that. Sorry!

Anyone who follows our website knows that we’ve been bringing in a lot of inventory lately, and while it’s been selling, we have more to come.  So we need the room!  Therefore, this set has to go soon, or I’m sticking it so far back in storage it may never see the light of day again. For that reason, and for a short time, this set is on sale for HALF PRICE!  That’s a major savings, especially if you see what this set is selling for on eBay.

So here’s an amazing retro mid century set with that 60s look and feel… just check out this whiskey barrel table with 4 swivel chairs by Brothers Furniture of Kentucky.  As near as we can tell, there are very few such sets available.

Condition:   The set is in very good condition, although it does have some dings and blemishes that come with being previously owned.  You’ll note there are a couple of small tears in the Naugahyde upholstery, as seen in the photos.

Actually, most of the (very few) pieces we found in an internet search appear to have some damage.  It would be extraordinarily surprising if vintage furniture of this type and age (1960s-1970s) was in mint condition.

Dimensions:
Table: 48” in diameter and 29” high.
Each chair is 32” tall, 24” x wide x 20” deep with a seat height of 16”.

FIRM Price:  HALF PRICE SALE – now just $550!  (Was $1,100.00 for the set.)  We have to charge a 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax to Maine residents.

Shipping & Delivery:  Free local pickup.  Shipping can be arranged but would be rather costly.

For Bogart & Bacall Fans

A fan of old movies?  Perhaps just a fan of Bogart, or maybe only of Bacall?  Or it could be their love story that’s so fascinating?  No matter, it’s still hard to believe that such an iconic actor as Humphrey Bogart died in January 1957 – 64 years ago.  He was only 57.

Weirdly, Lauren Bacall lived another 57 years after his death (dying one month before her 90th birthday in 2014).

Bogey’s contributions to the art of acting continue to live on as do those of Bacall.

Here’s a great black & white framed poster of the two.

Condition:  It’s in very good, solid condition with very few nicks or blemishes in the frame or backing. It was apparently given as a wedding gift a few years ago as there’s an inscription on the back referencing a couple’s new life together.

Dimensions:  27″ high x 21″ wide.

FIRM Price:  $22.00.  Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $1.21 for a total of $23.21.

SOLD. Good Sturdy Tan Corduroy Hassock – Or Perhaps Use Instead of a Dog Ramp?

My dogs are both getting old, and finding it more difficult to jump up onto the bed, which is their favorite place in the world.  In fact, my dachshund/mini schnauzer mix had a herniated disk in his neck last October, and would not have made it without surgery. (Essentially, he broke his neck.)  So he’s not allowed to jump, anyway.

Neither dog will use the ramp/stairs combo I got them.  So I have repurposed the expensive hassocks in the house and placed them around the bed so they have to use them to get up and down – and not only does it work, but they seem a whole lot less stressed about the process.

So… if you don’t need this very nice, clean, sturdy tan hassock for yourself, perhaps you have a pup or a cat that could use some help getting up and down!

Condition:  It’s in excellent, solid condition with very few nicks or blemishes.  It’s very sturdy.

Dimensions:  17″ high x 28″ wide x 20″ deep.

FIRM Price:  $20.00.  Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $1.10 for a total of $21.10.

Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm.

Shipping & Delivery:  Free local pickup.  We can deliver within Lewiston-Auburn for a $10.00 delivery fee, or Gray/Portland (along the 202 Route, or just off it) early Wednesday mornings for the same $10.00.  Shipping is $20.00.

SOLD! Vintage Lane Octagonal Side Table or Pedestal

This little table is extremely well made, quite solid and beautiful.  The stripe-y highlights shown by my less-than-stellar photography are intentional by design, but aren’t nearly as pronounced in real life; I’ll get better photos soon.  The auctioneer said it was made by Lane, which I have no reason to doubt (although I generally do verify such information).

Condition:  It’s in excellent, solid condition with very few nicks or blemishes.

Dimensions:  24″ high x 17″ diameter.

FIRM Price:  $30.00.  Plus 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax of $1.65 for a total of $31.65.

Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm.

SOLD! We All Need A Warm and Happy Chair!

I’m not sure why I like this chair so much… it just seems so warm and comfy, with its wide seat and small pillows.  The fabric has a soft and silky feel; it’s very pretty in a floral way.  The auctioneer said it was Italian, although I don’t know if it’s just Italianate in style or if it actually came from Italy.

Condition:  Excellent, both structurally and visually

Dimensions:  About 16″ to the seat; 36″ overall.  The seat itself is 29″ at its widest (in the front).

FIRM Price:  $75.00, plus 5.5% Maine State Sales tax of $4.13 for a total of $79.13.

Shipping would be a bit pricey; probably in the $50 range..
