All of the items we offer are vintage, antique or simply pre-owned.  Therefore, reasonable wear & tear is to be expected, and our items are sold as seen and as described in the photos and/or in person.
We try to describe any damage, nicks, blemishes or other problems of which we are aware in any and all of our listings, and always include plenty of clear photographs which are integral to the description, so please review them closely.
Also, please be aware that vintage and antique items are unlikely to be in factory condition, so if you aren’t used to buying antique or vintage items – and are in fact looking for a pristine, unused item – a new reproduction may be better suited for you.

Winner #1 – From the Maine Home Show!

Winner

Holy cow… has more than two months already gone by?

Back in March we exhibited at the Maine Home Show at the Colisee in Lewiston.  It was a great weekend and we made lots of new contacts.  We also offered a drawing for a $75.00 gift certificate.

It’s taken until just now for us to actually draw the winner from that lot of names.  (Hang my head in shame, but there really were extenuating circumstances… we were both sick, and then we moved the shop, and I was in Los Angeles setting up our new space… blah blah blah…)

ANYWAY….. We’re pleased to say that we have just now drawn a winner!  Congratulations to William Demaray of Livermore Falls, Maine!  Mr Demary has been sent an email notifying him of his win.

Soon, we’ll be drawing the winners from two other shows, and will announce those lucky people on here as well!

Rotating Art Gallery

In the picture below, you can see four 2′ wide by 8′ tall grids.  The one on the left and the two in the middle are in an alcove at the front of the shop.

This is where our rotating art gallery for area artists is located.  The space is about 5 feet wide and about 3 feet deep on the left side, and 18 inches deep on the right.  Depending on size, the area can hold anywhere from 6-30 or more pieces of wall hung art, photography, fiber arts, or whatever.  There’s even enough space for potters or others to display their work.

We’re looking for local artists who want to be featured for a month at a time in this prime location, right next to our cash out area.  We’ll make sure your information is displayed prominently!

FMI: Contact Linda at 207 740 2247, or LSnyder@regroupbiz.com.

Holy Mackerel – Come Take a Look!

Take a look at this amazing Harlequin-style bureau!

Take a look at this amazing Harlequin-style bureau!

Holy Mackerel!

For the past 7 weeks, Johnny and I have been busting our cans between our jobs and our businesses.

On April 7th, the landlord of our tiny little retail space – which was really only used as storage for inventory that hadn’t yet sold on eBay, at various flea markets & antique shops, and at home shows – told us that much larger & much more desirable space would suddenly be available in two weeks. Did we want it?

Okay, we’re both working very demanding jobs, dozens of hours each week.  We were already exhausted from those jobs, from trying to slowly build our antiques business, and from months of being sick (bouts of pneumonia for him and sinusitus for me).

Did we really need to add on even more stress?

Well, I never have been one to avoid a challenge…

So for the past 7 weeks, we have pushed as hard as we could to prepare not only a wonderful retail space for Heritage Collectibles that’s nearly 4 times larger than our old space and has amazing windows to showcase our inventory (but would now require that we have regular store hours), but we also decided to keep the old space and use it as a thrift shop for inventory that didn’t make it into Heritage Collectibles… and to offer monthly vouchers to low income people to get household items for free.

Vintage Framed Thai Silk Art

Our goal was to have Heritage Collectibles completely ready in time for the first ArtWalk of the season (which was last night, May 29).  And Holy Mackerel… we did it!

We’ve spent hours and hours and even more hours at auctions and estate sales (both on-line and in person), hauling and setting up the inventory purchased, dealing with the financials and developing a marketing plan, staffing the two shops…. All while also working our regular jobs.

We’ve been so exhausted we could barely see straight.

In the past two days we finally got the wire grids needed for the walls, so our stunning variety of art could be properly displayed… thank goodness for the huge effort John put in, getting those grids mounted.

While there’s still more work to be done (HA! There will always be more work to be done), we are wicked proud of what we’ve accomplished.

Now, we’re looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow morning!

L/A Arts is excited to usher in the new season with the return of Summer Art Walk L/A! Taking place from 5:00 – 8:30 p.m. the last Friday night of every month from May – September, Art Walk Lewiston Auburn turns downtown Lewiston into an impressive arts district.

This summer, L/A Arts is pleased to be partnering with more local downtown businesses than ever before. Over twenty greater Lisbon Street organizations and storefronts open their doors and offer visual art galleries, live performances, and special exhibits to local community members and patrons.

L/A Arts is proud to be curating at least 10 of such venues, including transforming multiple empty storefronts into arts venues. This year, L/A Arts is also pleased to offer a new online artist catalog of artwork for the public to view on the Art Walk website (www.artwalklewistonauburn.com). All participating artist’s work, and the accompanying venues they will be displayed in, will be presented to give patrons an opportunity to browse, enjoy, and even purchase artwork before and after the event. L/A Arts will also be bringing live arts performances back to Dufresne Plaza, to add to the energy, vibrancy, and multiple outstanding offerings of Art Walk L/A.

L/A Arts is also accepting artist submissions for the May 29th Art Walk! The event offers local artists the opportunity for extensive exposure and a chance to sell their artwork to the hundreds of arts appreciators who come every month. Artist’s work is curated in one of the multiple venues, and displayed on the online gallery for a small submission fee of $5, and this year, and zero commissions on sold artwork! (With the exception of a 5% payment processing fee). The deadline for submissions for the first Art Walk is Monday, May 11th.

Papa’s Thrift Shop

Papa's Logo & Header

If you have a garage sale or flea market coming up, and no easy way of disposing of the leftovers, give Papa’s Thrift Shop a call!

In 2014, Heritage Collectibles (our antiques & collectibles business, located at 189 Main Street in Lewiston) helped several area churches & private garage salers by hauling off their yard sale leftovers, and donated over 35 Jeep-loads of household goods that we couldn’t use, to organizations that re-sold those items.

Among the items donated last year were two dozen fake Christmas trees… and then I (Linda, a social worker for three decades) learned that one of my clients was unable to get a Christmas tree for her daughter because she couldn’t afford one. She couldn’t even afford one of those I’d donated to be resold.

That made no sense to me.

This year we opened Papa’s Thrift Shop at 5 Park Street in Lewiston, ME.

Papa’s operates as a thrift shop/flea market with great prices for the general public, but with the unusual bonus of providing vouchers to social workers, allowing their very low-income clients to “purchase” up to $25 per month in clothing and household items from Papa’s – ABSOLUTELY FREE!

Papa’s is a very small shop but you can find some GREAT bargains!

Come check out Papa’s, and do so often as our inventory changes frequently… we never know when a whole new load from a garage sale or church flea market will come in!

Papa’s has a group on Facebook that I just started this morning; you can find us at https://www.facebook.com/groups/PapasThriftShop/   Soon, Papa’s will have its own blog/website, Pinterest and Twitter accounts, too!

Papa’s hours are Fridays | Saturdays | Sundays from 12:00-5:00 and Mondays from 12:00-2:00.  Please check in at Heritage Collectibles (around the corner at 189 Main Street) as that’s where we’ll be if there aren’t any customers visiting Papa’s.  You can also reach us by calling Linda at 207 740 2247, or emailing me at LSnyder at regroupbiz dot com.

Papa's has dish sets, glassware, baskets, decorative items, lots of clothing, small electrical appliances, a big wood desk, several motorcycle/snowmobile helmets, shoes & clothing, and even a wedding dress!

onehundredcatsandamouse – Stolen

onehundredcatsandamouse

Gotta love being in retail…. I turned my back yesterday for just a couple of minutes and someone came into the shop and left with a 2 foot by 3 foot framed poster that I had just gotten at an auction the night before.

So… if you happen to know of someone local to the Lewiston-Auburn ME area who suddenly has a poster titled onehundredcatsandamouse – or you saw that person walking with the poster down the street Saturday morning near 189 Main St in Lewiston  –  you can bet your bottom dollar that was stolen from Heritage Collectibles, and the person is a thief, pure and simple.

I’ve been in retail before and remember this feeling of being violated.

To the Thief:

You did not steal from some big corporation. You stole from a real live person who works two jobs as a social worker and another 60+ hours a week in this business.  (Heads Up: Even if you did steal from “some big corporation”, it’s still stealing.)

If you stole this poster because you think you “deserve it”, I ask you… Who deserves nice things more? Someone who works her ass off – 100 hours a week or more – to earn the things she has, or someone who feels entitled to take whatever he/she wants?

If you stole this poster because you love the thrill of getting away with things, I ask you… are you going to enjoy that thrill when you’re finally caught and sitting in a jail cell, with some big dude licking his chops over your fresh meat?

If you stole this poster because you need money for drugs… well, that’s just pathetic.

And to anyone else thinking that stealing is okay because “they charge so much anyway”… HA!!  Part of the reason why things cost so much is because we get stolen from and have to recover the money somehow.   Remember the old saying “Money doesn’t grow on trees”? You steal but I still have bills to pay.

Holy Cow… What a Week!

Sherman Oaks Antique Mall - Partially Completed Set Up of Our Vintage Jewelry Display

Sherman Oaks Antique Mall – Partially Completed Set Up of Our Vintage Jewelry Display

Holy cow, what a week…. Spent the first half of it in Los Angeles with my daughter Jessamyn, where we were setting up our new space with vintage jewelry at the Sherman Oaks Antique Mall.

Back to the east coast on Wednesday, and my two social work jobs.

In addition, Johnny and I finished moving Heritage Collectibles into a new retail space with nearly 4 times the square footage, and re-opened on Friday, with much greater initial success than we’d expected! We’re getting lots of kudos, both for adding great shopping to the downtown, and for the quality of our inventory. (Hurray!)

We also worked at fixing up our old retail space for Papa’s Thrift Shop, which is opening this Friday.

And, I cleared out our booth space at the Undercover Antique Mall in Oxford (no time to manage that location and our space at Cabot Mill Antiques in Brunswick, too), attended several on-line auctions, and physically went to two auctions, where I picked up lots of great inventory.

Tired…. But feeling great!

Message re Our Products:
We ordinarily do not “clean up” items because such cleaning may detract from their value.
We are specific and honest in our descriptions because we want happy buyers who will return and/or refer their friends!
