Frankly, I don’t know yet.
A while ago I purchased two lots of old cast iron silhouettes. One lot was in good shape; the other was pretty rusty. Some on-line sources said the quickest and easiest way of addressing the rust is to soak the item in white vinegar and then clean up with an old toothbrush.
I mentioned this to friends who advised using Coca Cola instead, which reminded me that I’d heard of that method several years (okay, decades) ago.
Well, what would you do? Me? I trotted over to Hannaford’s and picked up a couple of jugs of each. Late yesterday afternoon, I set up one soak basin with Coke, and one with white vinegar. I’ll let you know the results when I arrive at the office later this morning!
Note: The first photo above shows the rusty roosters soaking in white vinegar. The second is the Coke basin.
