About 140 Jewel Cases

Once upon a time (well, actually, last Friday), a young business owner (well, actually, she’s in her mid 60s) went to an auction and purchased a pretty cool little CD cabinet filled with nearly 150 CDs. It seemed like a decent deal, even though CDs aren’t worth much any more.

The auctioneer told how he hadn’t held the door to the CD cabinet shut like he should have, and all the CDs came spilling out, and he had to pick them all up and put them back in the cabinet.

The auctioneer didn’t know, and neither did the very young (okay, mid 60s) business owner, that all of those CD cases were EMPTY! (Had he known, he wouldn’t have spent the time sorting them and putting them back in the cute little CD cabinet, that will soon be posted for sale on this site.)

There wasn’t a darned CD in any one of them. At least not in any of the 50 or so that the not-so-very-old entrepreneur opened.

And so… instead of some cool music, you can now be the proud owner of about 140 empty jewel cases. And instead of paying 50c or so each for them, you can have them for the ridiculously low price of about 18c each…

Or you can put them on a several shelves to impress your friends with your taste in music.

Condition: The cases all seem to be in very good condition. Of course, I didn’t go through them one by one.

Dimensions: They’re jewel cases. They are the size they are. (Yeah, I’m gonna keep on with the ridiculousness of it all.)

Just Added! 3 More Chalkware Pedestals, Plus a Beautiful Reproduction!

A while ago, I picked up three pedestals somewhat similar to the ones above. Two have since sold, and I was thrilled to find the 4 above at auction last week!

Three are chalkware, which gives them that real antique-y look; the 4th, as you can see is a reproduction – but it’s my favorite of them all!

As mentioned in my previous post on the topic, I have several pedestals at home, mostly reproduction Grecian style. And I love them! They’re great for plants like philodendrons and ivy, or for displaying a strikingly colorful piece of artwork.

For example, here are some ideas:

Our (reproduction) cinnebar horse statue ($40) really pops against the white of this chalkware pedestal.

This reproduction pedestal is wider and lower to the floor, so I added an urn (Greek or Roman with 3 maidens, $60) and a philodendron to balance it out.

And here is one of the pedestals with just the plant. A much larger one would look even better!

Three of the four recently obtained pedestals are vintage chalkware, which is hollow and does damage somewhat easily, and is difficult to find nowadays for that reason. The other is a reproduction. And we still have the other reproduction (the shorter, round one).

Condition: There is a small amount of damage to the design under the corner of one of the chalkware pedestals (a small piece of the design has broken off, and despite the photo below, it’s really not all that noticeable, especially if placed against a wall!).

This group (two of which are matching) is in much better condition than the previous ones I had.

The round reproduction is in great shape, except for a small ding on the top surface.

The blemishes can be seen in the photos.

Dimensions:

3 tall square chalkware pedestals: 11 1/2″ square by 29″ high.
1 tall square reproduction pedestal: 10″ square by 29 1/4″ high.
1 round reproduction pedestal: 15″ diameter by 16″ high.

Prices:

3 tall square chalkware pedestals: $45.00 each, plus Maine State Sales Tax of $2.48 for a total of $47.48.
1 tall square reproduction pedestal: $40.00, plus Maine State Sales Tax of $2.20 for a total of $42.20.
1 round reproduction pedestal: $35.00, plus Maine State Sales Tax of $1.93 for a total of $36.93.

Shipping each piece via USPS would be about $20.00, and based on a recent shipping disaster, we don’t think it’s a good idea to try.

SOLD! Vintage Knight on Horseback Figural Lamp – From Our Wild Heart Gallery

Here’s another of our wonderful pieces evoking the knights of old, and perhaps, even of King Arthur’s court!

Vintage lamps seem a dime a dozen, and many do repeat similar themes over and over. But this is the first we’ve seen like this. Just look at the colors!

Condition: Very good. The figure itself is in great shape. The shade is probably much newer than the lamp, as it’s in near perfect condition. The lamp bulb socket is a bit shaky – which seems typical of older pieces – but it still works fine as seen in the photos.

Dimensions: About 28″ high. (I measured for the dimensions of about a dozen pieces of inventory, wrote it all down and then promptly misplaced the sheet of paper. Will have to remeasure when I get back to the office, and update this post!).

Palm Trees – Bookends & A Wall Plaque

Palm trees… while I love Maine and really don’t like hot weather, I – like many others – could use a bit of sunshine right about now. And palm trees sure evoke that sense of sunny California or Florida, don’t they?

We have a set of palm tree bookends and a wall plaque (although I’m not sure what the coat of arms is all about) to add a touch of more temperate weather to your home or office. Enjoy!

Condition: Excellent. Like new. The bookends are a heavy resin-type material. The plaque has a rustic barnboard appeal, even including a couple of old nail heads embedded, per the photos!

Dimensions: The bookends are about 5″ high. The plaque is around 16″ high. (Better measurements coming soon!)

SOLD! A Goose for Your Yard – From Our Lawn & Garden Shop

Despite growing up on a farm – or perhaps because of it – I’m not a big fan of geese. My dad got a small flock of them shortly after I went away to college, leaving my sister to face them down by herself… and sometimes they made it difficult for her to get off the school bus and into the house!

Luckily, this goose won’t cause those kinds of problems!

Condition: Excellent. I don’t know if he’s actually spent any time outside.

The three tapestry pillows shown here (which I should have done as separate photos for each, to show them off better), are high quality and in perfect condition. While the scenes are all quite different (polo, a hunt scene and a single horse), the focus is definitely on horses.

There are three different pillows, all created by a company called Ashford Court, as noted on the tags.

Condition: Excellent. Like new.
