SOLD. Arts & Crafts Style Oak Book Shelf

According to Google:  “The core characteristics of the Arts and Crafts movement are a belief in craftsmanship which stresses the inherent beauty of the material, the importance of nature as inspiration, and the value of simplicity, utility, and beauty.”

This is an open bookcase.  It does not have, nor did it ever have, a back panel.

Dimensions:   40 1/4″ high x 39″ wide x 8″ deep.

Condition:  Very good.  One peg is missing from the left of the shelf.  Note: Because this is vintage, it is not perfect, and does have some scratches as would be expected.   It was still a bit dusty when I took the photos… why oh why does the dust show up so much more in pictures than in real life?!  (The white line you see at the top right of the bookcase is the string from the auctioneer’s tag… I just noticed this as I was about to hit “Publish”.)

FIRM Price:  $95.00, which includes 5.5% Maine State Sales Tax.

FCFS.  Sorry, no holds without payment in advance via PayPal (see below for purchase options).  We don’t use any other cash or money app

Local Pick Up Available:

Auburn.  This item is located at a private home in Auburn, and can be seen there by appointment, which ordinarily would be on weekends only. For those who prefer, you can find this item on Facebook’s Marketplace here: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/427784722056979 or just send an email to Linda at HeritageCollectiblesMaine@gmail.com

Payment Through This Website:  This site supposedly offers the option of paying directly but there’s some kind of weird glitch and payment info for every new item posted somehow auto-populates to every previous item.  Since that’s obviously wrong, I’ve had to eliminate that option on most items.  My apologies!  Please connect with me via heritagecollectiblesmaine@gmail.com for purchase info.  Because my primary business is non-stop and demanding, I probably won’t get back to you until early morning or late evening. (More apologies!)

Our Other Maine Locations

Brunswick. We have a display cabinet (#27) at Cabot Mill Antiques, 14 Maine Street in Brunswick (ME). Their phone number is 207-725-2855. Cabot Mill is open Sunday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.  I don’t have good photos of the inventory at Cabot Mill as the display cabinet is all glass and I end up getting so much glare, it’s hard to see what’s available!

Oxford. Our more contemporary inventory is located at Happy Trails Antiques & Flea Market at 891 Main Street, Oxford (ME). Their phone is 207-515-0927. Happy Trails is open Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays from 9:00-5:00, and Sundays from 10:00-4:00. Our booth number (both booths) is S47, although one says S75 on the booth wall. For photos of these booths (at the time of posting), check out this blog:  https://heritagecollectiblesmaine.com/2021/04/26/our-two-booths-at-happy-trails-antiques-flea-market/

In memory of my beloved husband John K Snyder… 20 Sept 1956 – 21 Oct 2016.

He loved our shops, especially the section we called Heritage Books, Maps & Ephemera – that was his baby.  Johnny was an avid reader, who loved the feel of real books in his hands… history was his forte, but in true Renaissance Man fashion, John knew a lot about a great many subjects.  He would often be so fascinated by a book he was reading that he would excitedly read aloud passages to me, so we could discuss the ideas contained therein.

He loved me like crazy, and oh how I loved him.

Follow our blog at https://warrior-project.org, in honor of my husband, and all others who have been lost to internal demons that in the end, overwhelmed them.

All of the profits after expenses from Heritage Collectibles, Books & Maps will go to help fund The Grief Warrior Project, a suicide prevention drop-in and counseling center in the process of being developed, although it has been in hiatus during the pandemic.  I’m hoping to begin working on this again during the spring of 2022.

(Please Note: The Grief Warrior Project is in no way intended to be reflective of, or piggy back off, Wounded Warriors which serves those military personnel wounded after September 11, 2001.  Like too many others, John was a warrior long before then.)

SOLD! Moose Stools!

No, not that kind of moose stools, silly.

This is a classic pair of wooden stools with a moose stenciled into each.  I don’t know if it’s original with the stools or was done after-market.  But they’re adorable, either way!

Dimensions:   24″ high. The seat is 10 1/2″ in diameter.

Condition:  They’re in very good, solid condition, with just a few dings and blemishes on the legs.

FIRM Price:  $50.00 for the pair, plus 5.5% Maine State Sales tax of $2.75 for a total of $52.75.

Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm.

Our Apologies, But Holds Over 24 Hours Must Now Provide a 50% Deposit: As we’ve gotten busier, I’m spending a great deal of time juggling multiple requests for the same item.  Most of the time, something comes up in the customer’s life that prevents him or her from getting here, but sometimes I never do here from them again. And in the meantime, other customers who are asking about the item end up moving on when the chair or art or garden statue or whatever isn’t immediately available.  So without a deposit, I’ll now have to implement a First Come, First Served policy.

Shipping & Delivery:  Free local pickup.  We can deliver within Lewiston-Auburn for a $10.00 delivery fee, or Gray/Portland (along the 202 Route, or just off it) early Wednesday mornings for the same $10.00.  Shipping is not advised as the cost could be as much as the price of the item.

Some Items I Picked Up At An Auction This Morning!

The two amber globes on the left are quite large table lamps with brass bases.  The floral item in the back is actually a full-sized trash can (I’d use it to store dog food or bird seed, rather than for trash)!  There’s actually another of the black & white chairs, but I didn’t have room in the Jeep to bring it back (and couldn’t load the white wooden rocking chair with faces carved into the arms, either!).

The black swivel stools are in great shape, the three teddy bears appear brand new (and each is different), and the white cabinet is quite nice!  Oh, and the metal tole lamp is adorable!

More info, prices and so forth coming soon.  Right now, I’m taking a brief break before heading up north for an auction this evening.

Condition:  Everything is in very good condition.

Prices:  Coming soon, along with individual blogs for each item.  I just wanted to give you a taste of some new inventory!

SOLD! Vintage or Reproduction Floor Lamp with Tasseled (or Fringed), Victorian Look Shade

This lamp reminds me of old Aunt Elizabeth, hovering in her overcrowded Victorian sitting room with the velvet or tapestried furniture, fussing over visitors.

Well, at least the Aunt Elizabeth from novels, anyway.  My family members were all farmers, and as far as I know, never had such a home.

One can fantasize, right?

What I especially like about the shade is the pattern of frogs and dragonflies!

Dimensions:   The lamp post, including finial, is a bit over 5′ tall.

Condition:  Seems to be in perfect condition visually.  And it works as it should.  It’s good and solid, without the “tippy-ness” that some lamps have.

FIRM Price:  $40.00, plus 5.5% Maine State Sales tax of $2.20 for a total of $42.20.

Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm.

Vintage Book: The Flying Saucer Conspiracy, by Major Donald Keyhoe, 2nd Edition, 1955

According to Google Books, the following was from the book jacket of one of the editions.

“In 1953, when Major Donald E. Keyhoe wrote Flying saucers from outer space, he hoped that the government’s information on mysterious flying objects would soon be made public. Instead, by a curious reversal of policy, official secrecy was increased. How this secrecy is enforced — the methods by which startling new developments are concealed — is the subject of The flying saucer conspiracy. Since 1953, saucer reports have multiplied; thousands of sightings have been confirmed by veteran pilots, radarman, and trained ground observers. Government investigation has been intensified; prominent engineers and scientists have been brought in to help Air Force Intelligence evaluate the indisputable facts. Yet the Air Force has refused to release a single official report concerning flying-saucer encounters. Major Keyhoe believes that this policy of censorship is sponsored by only a few individuals: men whose motive is to protect the public from possible hysteria. But he finds this censorship inimical to the democratic way of life: man has a chance to act wisely only if informed of all the facts”

Condition:  Good.

Portrait of a Young Man – Marvelous Chalk Pastel or Colored Charcoal Original Portrait by Unsigned Artist

This portrait of a young man was purchased at a recent auction; the minute I saw it, I was struck by the colors the artist used in portraying the model.

While it’s really little more than colored chalk on art paper, stuck in an inexpensive plastic frame, with no signature or other markings, there’s something about this that just captivates me.

Then, when I opened the plastic box frame to see if perhaps there was some information on the artist, I found this behind the other drawing:

Just love these, although the head shot done in various shades of blue and other colors is by far my favorite.

I checked with my daughter on this piece; she says the artist probably used colored charcoals or pastels, which she pointed out is obvious when you examine the shading, especially the subject’s hair. She suggests that the minor wrinkling of the art paper happened when “in order to blend or get those more pigmented ‘water color’ type areas, the artist wet the media”, which would cause the wrinkling, since these weren’t done on canvas.

I love it when she can teach me things!

Dimensions:   24″ high x 18″ wide. The plastic box frame is about 1 1/2 deep.

Condition:  There is some wrinkling of the art paper as noted above. The heavy plastic of the box frame is in decent shape. The lightweight cardboard of the insert has seen better days but it’s still in far better shape than some I’ve seen. The photos should show the issues.

FIRM Price:  $85.00, plus 5.5% Maine State Sales tax of $4.68 for a total of $89.68.

Unless we’re having a sale, which would be listed here, our prices are firm.

Belt Buckles – John Deere, Trans Am, Ford, Firefighters

These belt buckles were obtained at an auction several years ago.  We had to wait until the very end of that auction for them to come up to bid, but it seemed worth it to bring back this nice little find.  Then for some reason, I ended up putting them in storage, and just recently found them again!

There are five in all:

Condition:  The Trans Am and Firefighter buckles are in very good condition.  The John Deere and the one with the stone center have some blemishes, due to scuffing and/r age.  The Ford buckle is missing the loop/clip on the back..

Dimensions (all are approximate):  Trans Am: 3 1/2″ x 2 3/8″.  Firefighter: 3 1/4″ x 2 3/8″.  John Deere: 3 3/4″ x 3″.  Stone Center: 3 1/2″ x 2 1/4″.  Ford: 4″ x 3″.

FIRM Prices:   John Deere, Trans Am and Firefighters are $18.00 each.  The one with the stone center is $10.00.  The Ford buckle is $6.00.  All 5 for $40.00.  Plus the usual 5.5% Maine State Sales tax, of course.

Shipping is $10.00.

For other options, please review our most recent blog on Possible Delivery Options in the Next Week (use the search feature), or our Shipping & Delivery page at https://heritagecollectiblesmaine.com/details-shipping-information/.

Buying Details:  We are very low tech.  Payment can be made via PayPal, good check (please allow 1 week to clear if not known to us) or cash.
