We get loads of requests for bookcases, and have had to say “Sorry” to every one because we’ve needed every shelving unit we could get our hands on! In fact, I (Linda) went to an auction last week specifically because it had quite a few bookcases available… but they’re obviously in high demand because I was only able to leave with one; the rest were sold for more than I’d be able to buy and make money from. (We do try to keep our prices reasonable!)
In any event, here’s that bookcase as well as another we picked up yesterday.
#1. No Longer Available. We Needed It! The brown (maple?) one is solid wood, and appears to be vintage as it has shelving hardware I’ve never seen before: the shelves slide onto heavy wires that can be moved to create whatever shelving configuration you want. It comes with one of those pressed cardboard backs that may not be original because it seems out of place for this piece, but then again, maybe it does go with it. I frankly think the unit looks better without the back, but that’s your decision.
#2. The blonde bookcase is wicked heavy and very solid but appears to be MDF (medium density fiberboard), not real wood. (FMI. See a good article on the topic here: MDF vs Plywood).
Condition: Structurally they’re both in great shape, although cosmetically each has some minor dings, which is to be expected.
The maple bookcase is 48″W x 30″H x 12″D.
The blonde bookcase is 33 1/2″ x 36″H x 11 1/2″D.
The maple bookcase is $35.00.
The blonde bookcase is $45.00.
