Disturbing WWII Picture – Update

A while back I published the post below about the WWII picture shown in the frame, asking if anyone had any info.

Late last week some answers finally arrived via one of the resources we’re subscribed to. The information provided was as follows:

“This is a print of a photograph of a North African (Tunisian) brothel in the 1920’s published by Lehnert and Landrock (Rudolph Franz Lehnert and Ernst Heinrich Landrock), an Austrian and Swiss photography team that established a book store and photo shop in 1924 in Cairo, Egypt. Your piece is a known print and …has been cut down to fit in that frame… Below is the original image.”

Because we only have a photocopy of the original photo, it’s blurred – and we mistook her right arm for a man’s boot (thinking he was sitting directly behind her).

War is hell.

This WWII era picture is very disturbing. We're looking for any information militaria buffs might have (not an appraisal - the history behind the picture).

I got this picture at an auction, without realizing what the content was.  When John took a close look at it, he realized it is a very disturbing, although probably posed, depiction of a Japanese soldier peering in at a half-nude woman clearly being held for the sex trade… and there’s a man directly behind her who can only be seen via his leg which is wrapped around her.

There are no identifying marks on what appears to be a photocopy of a photograph.

Any experts in militaria out there have any history on this or similar photos?

Thanks.

Message re Our Products:
All of the items we offer are vintage, antique or simply pre-owned.  Therefore, reasonable wear & tear is to be expected, and our items are sold as seen and as described in the photos and/or in person.
We try to describe any damage, nicks, blemishes or other problems of which we are aware in any and all of our listings, and always include plenty of clear photographs which are integral to the description, so please review them closely.
Also, please be aware that vintage and antique items are unlikely to be in factory condition, so if you aren’t used to buying antique or vintage items – and are in fact looking for a pristine, unused item – a new reproduction may be better suited for you.
We ordinarily do not “clean up” items because such cleaning may detract from their value.
We are specific and honest in our descriptions because we want happy buyers who will return and/or refer their friends!
